FXC layered-material evidence
Pre-releaseFXC layered-material evidence - PR #165
Source: 5d99fdd5399cd705278dfc6731c8606ecff252d7, stacked on #164.
PR: #165
Four physical Radeon DX12/FXC material goldens failed during pipeline creation.
The original log reports X3570 (implicit gradient in a varying loop) and X3511
(failed loop unrolling). Their shader and test sources are byte-identical
between #163 and #164; the retained receipt is a source comparison, not a
separately executed parent full FXC suite.
The shared sheen directional-albedo helper now samples its single-mip R16Float
lookup table at explicit level zero. Texture, sampler, coordinates, bindings,
features and image assertions remain unchanged. Explicit LOD removes the
implicit-gradient requirement inside varying light loops. Image regressions,
not an assumption of byte-identical compiler output, qualify behavior.
Local results
The complete DX12/FXC shared component passes: 489 library tests, device
negotiation, all 93 goldens and remaining integration checks. All four material
cases that failed to compile now pass their original rendering assertions.
DX12/DXC and Vulkan independently pass all 93 goldens. Strict Clippy, formatting
and repository contracts pass. Existing ignored tests remain recorded.
Raster goldens require the physical Radeon 760M. The ray-query helper retains
its deliberate DXC requirement even in the FXC raster run; some library helpers
select software adapters. The full FXC component takes 1,073.406 seconds including
compilation and tests. This is test duration, not FPS or a GPU budget.
The committed production shader patch exactly matches the tested candidate.
Hosted results
Hosted Tests run 34555112391 passes all 22 jobs. Windows library tests pass
489 with one ignored in 254.22 seconds. Windows goldens skip the CPU adapter;
the nominal 93 ok results in 0.31 seconds are not physical-image qualification.
The Windows engine build and all 20 example links pass. Linking does not prove
startup. Hosted macOS/Metal rendering checks and the canonical image job pass.
The PR head and hosted merge checkout have identical Git trees. Named RTX 4080
and M1 Max full-quality jobs remain skipped.
The WARP/DXIL concurrent compiler defect from #164 remains open; this shader
change does not claim a driver fix. Broader performance/corpus acceptance,
starter runtime, packaging, unavailable hardware and draft-stack review also
remain open. No PR is merged.

The archive includes the original physical FXC failure, source comparisons,
exact candidate patch, complete local logs, hosted logs and source/CI receipts.
Every payload is hashed; ZIP CRC and all payload SHA-256 values are verified.
Executables, libraries, memory dumps and licensed scene assets are excluded.
