Added

• Opening a Recent file that's moved or been deleted now offers to locate it instead of just toasting an error and forgetting it — click "Locate…" to browse for where it lives now, or remove it from Recents.
• The reader-speed setting now links to readingsoft.com to actually measure your reading speed, if you don't already know your wpm.
• Custom dash can now convert "--" and "---" independently, at the same time — previously an either/or choice, since converting "--" immediately couldn't tell whether a third hyphen was about to make it "---" instead. Off by default; the existing single-trigger behavior is unchanged unless you turn the second one on.
• Right-click anywhere on the ribbon to name (or rename) the window — desktop only. A named window shows that name as its title instead of the document filename, useful for telling windows apart at a glance (e.g. "Speech Doc"). The name persists across mode-switch reloads and clears with "Clear Window Name."
• Each pane in a multi-pane workspace now has its own cloud-sync pill, in that pane's own footer, instead of one shared pill in the window's bottom-right corner that left it ambiguous which pane's document it was reporting on. Also more compact: it shows the provider's own icon (Dropbox / OneDrive / Google Drive / iCloud) instead of a generic cloud glyph plus the word "Cloud," and drops the label entirely while just synced — only "changed on disk" and "conflicted copy" states still show a short text cue. Single-doc mode is unchanged (still the one shared pill).
• The update chip now shows download progress — desktop only. While an update is downloading, the same status-bar pill fills in left to right and its text names the percent complete, instead of just appearing once the download finishes.

Fixed

• Rebinding a shortcut to Option+` (backtick) on macOS captured as "Alt-Unidentified" — a dead-key artifact of Option held on that key — instead of the literal backtick. Cmd+` also added to the macOS-reserved-shortcut list (it's "Move to Next Window," a hard OS-level reservation — the keystroke never reaches any app to capture in the first place, so this is documentation, not a fix).
• A pane's speech-doc marking (amber tint + 🎤) is no longer hidden by the focused-pane blue highlight — you can now tell a pane is the active speech doc even while you're actively working in it, not just when looking at it from another pane.
• Send to Speech silently did nothing when the cursor wasn't somewhere sendable (an empty line, or between cards/headings) — it now says so instead of looking like the command is broken.
• A filename containing a macOS Finder-typed "/" now displays the same way in CardMirror as it does in Finder — Finder shows "/" but actually stores the file with ":" on disk (a classic Mac OS carryover); CardMirror was showing the raw on-disk name.

Added

• New Document (ribbon or Mod-N) now asks which pane, or a new window when a three-pane workspace is open, the same picker Open already shows — instead of always opening a whole new window. An empty pane stays hidden until something's loaded into it, so previously the only visible "new doc" button was whichever pane you already had open, and clicking it added to THAT pane's stack rather than using an empty one.
• Opening a file from Finder/Explorer/Dock now asks which window when more than one three-pane workspace window is open, instead of always routing to whichever window was last focused — so a file meant for a different, unfocused window no longer lands in the wrong one's slot picker.
• Rebinding a shortcut on macOS now warns when it overlaps a macOS system shortcut (Quit, Hide, Log Out, the screenshot keys, Mission Control, Full Screen) — binding one used to silently do nothing when you pressed it, with no indication why. Checks the real Ctrl/Cmd keys you actually pressed, so a two-key combo like Control-Command-F is correctly told apart from a plain Cmd-F.

Fixed

• Send to Speech silently did nothing when the speech doc was the only document open and you tried to send from it to itself — it now tells you why instead of looking like the button (or shortcut) is just broken.
• Settings, tooltips, and hints that mention a shortcut by name now say "Cmd" instead of "Ctrl" on macOS (Find, Find & Replace, zoom, voice-control mic, expand-pane, Uncondense, the plain-paste hint, the keybindings editor's own validation message) — these used to say "Ctrl" everywhere, which was simply wrong on a Mac for anything bound to the app's cross-platform modifier key. Left untouched where "Ctrl" is genuinely, literally correct on every platform including macOS: the pinch/scroll-to-zoom gesture checks a real Ctrl keypress specifically (mirroring the browser's own pinch-to-zoom convention), not the app's Cmd-on-Mac modifier.

Synced with upstream through its 1.8.0 release (below) — brings in the
disk-conflict guard rework and cloud pill for shared folders, the
single-owner flashcard store fix, and every 1.7.0 co-editing fix.

Changed

• Save (ribbon button or Mod-S) once again saves only the current document, undoing 1.6.0-bcb.3.1's "save everything" change — it was more confusing than convenient once multiple panes and windows were in play. In three-pane mode, Save and Autosave also move out of the ribbon into each pane's own title chip, so each pane has its own Save/Autosave controls that unambiguously act on that pane's document, instead of a shared ribbon pair whose target depended on whichever pane was focused.

Added

• Ctrl/Cmd+K now recognizes a selected URL and fills in the "Link to" field for you. Select a pasted link (with https://, a www. prefix, or a recognized domain like .com/.org) and press Ctrl/Cmd+K — the hyperlink dialog's destination field is pre-filled instead of empty, so you don't have to retype or re-paste the same URL a second time.
• Closing a window with unsaved changes in more than one pane now shows a separate, named prompt for each document, all at once — "Chapter One.docx" and "Chapter Two.docx" each get their own dialog stacked together, instead of one generic "You have unsaved changes" dialog repeated one at a time with no way to tell which document it was actually asking about. A document whose saved file can no longer be found (moved, renamed, or deleted) gets a "Bind new filepath…" button in place of plain Save.
• The home screen can now suggest reopening a whole three-pane workspace, not just individual recent files. When a multi-pane window with 2+ saved documents open closes, CardMirror remembers that set under a "Recent Workspaces" section — click it to reopen every doc together in the same pane layout, instead of hunting down each file separately in Recent. Desktop only.

Added

• The "Autosave problem" notice now offers a "Save As…" button when the saved file has gone missing or its folder refused the write, instead of only telling you to do that yourself. In three-pane mode this works even for a background pane — clicking it brings that document into view before opening the dialog.

Changed

• Autosave is now on by default for every document, instead of off until you turned it on per file. Turn it off per file from the ribbon toggle the same way as before — that choice is still remembered across closing and reopening the file.

Fixed

• In three-pane workspace mode, a successful autosave no longer saves silently. The Save button now flashes its checkmark the same way it does for a manual save or single-doc autosave — it just never did that for autosave in three-pane mode before.
• macOS: "Open With → Always Open With CardMirror" for .docx now actually sticks. It could silently reset itself (back to Word, Pages, or whatever else claims .docx) whenever macOS rebuilt its Launch Services database — after an app update, an OS update, or on its own. CardMirror now declares its .docx support in a way macOS can bind to durably.
• Windows: a recent build had quietly gone back to installing CardMirror as the default app for .docx on every install — the exact bug an earlier fix removed, because it made Word's right-click "New > Microsoft Word Document" disappear from Explorer. Reverted; CardMirror is Open-With-only for .docx on Windows again, as intended.

Added

• Ctrl/Cmd+K adds or removes a hyperlink. Select text with no link and press it to get a small dialog for the display text (prefilled from your selection) and the URL. Press it again with the cursor in — or a selection touching — an existing link to remove it. Previously the only way to get a link into a document was pasting one in from somewhere else.
• Save now saves every dirty document across every pane and every open window, not just the focused one — no more clicking through each window individually to save everything.

Fixed

• The link right-click menu (and every other small floating menu — image, text-selection, nav-pane, spellcheck) could render partly hidden behind the status bar when opened near the bottom of the window, instead of flipping to open above the click point.

Install

Pick the file for your OS below, run the installer, and launch CardMirror like any other app.

macOS

1. Download CardMirror-1.6.0-bcb.3.1-universal.dmg — runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
2. Open the .dmg, drag CardMirror to your Applications folder.
3. First launch only — these builds are unsigned, so Gatekeeper will refuse to open it normally:
   • "can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" → in Finder → Applications, right-click (or Control-click) CardMirror → Open, then confirm. Normal double-click works from then on.
   • "is damaged and can't be opened" → macOS hard-quarantined the app. Open Terminal and run:

     sudo xattr -cr /Applications/CardMirror.app

Windows

1. Download CardMirror-Setup-1.6.0-bcb.3.1.exe.
2. Run the installer (Next → Install → Finish).
3. First launch only — SmartScreen will show "Windows protected your PC." Click More info → Run anyway (these builds are unsigned).
