ScreenShift 1.2.0

Your laptop screen is partly dead? ScreenShift puts the whole Windows desktop (taskbar, Start button, icons, maximized windows) back on the part of the panel that still works.

What's new

  • All four edges. The dead strip can now be on any side: left, top, right or bottom. Arrows move the left and bottom lines, Ctrl + arrows move the right and top ones, Shift moves faster. Thanks to @Howell1618 for the contribution (#1).
  • No more one-third limit per edge. Calibration only keeps at least 640×360 pixels so the instructions stay readable.
  • Settings from 1.1 keep working. settings.txt now stores five values (left, top, right, bottom, mode); the old three-value format is still read.
  • Geometry and key checks in tests\four-edges.ps1. They run against the built exe and never touch your display settings.

Quick start

  1. Download ScreenShift.exe below and run it.
  2. Move the yellow lines next to the dead strips: arrows for left and bottom, Ctrl + arrows for right and top, Shift = faster.
  3. Tab chooses Crisp or Fill, Enter applies.
  4. Press Keep within 20 seconds, otherwise the old picture comes back by itself.

ScreenShift.exe --apply re-applies your saved shift (handy for Startup), --reset removes it.

Good to know

  • Windows 10 (1607+), one active display, .NET Framework 4.x (already in Windows).
  • Tested on a MacBook Pro 2016 with Boot Camp and AMD Radeon Pro 460. Other GPUs depend on the driver: if Windows rejects the mode, nothing is changed. Reports from other hardware are very welcome.
  • The exe is not code-signed, so SmartScreen may warn. Choose More info, then Run anyway, or build it yourself with build.ps1.
  • Free for personal use. Every other use needs a paid license, see LICENSE and COMMERCIAL.md.
