This release focuses on making CAN Research more reliable and easier to use repeatedly after initial setup.

Highlights

• Improved Windows startup/restart experience

  • Normal use is now start-can-research.cmd → status.cmd → research
  • Existing tunnel, connector and Skills are reused after reboot
  • Improved startup reconciliation and stale-capture handling

• Automatic CANsub.2 timing preparation

  • Configured CAN timing can now be safely prepared before live RX
  • PHY configuration is written, read back and verified before capture
  • Passive frame proof is required before creating a persistent capture
  • Active timing mismatches remain fail-closed
  • 500 kbit/s / 1 Mbit/s workflow hardware-validated on the tested CANsub.2 FW 02.04.00 / API 04.00 baseline

• Capture Marker Companion

  • New lightweight local GUI for accurately marking physical events during live CAN experiments
  • F1–F6 quick markers plus custom labels/notes
  • Passive only — does not transmit CAN or take ownership of CAN RX
  • Designed to remove chat/MCP latency from controlled signal-research experiments

• Known-first DBC workflow improvements

  • Register and inspect existing DBCs
  • Compare stored sessions against DBC coverage
  • Use existing knowledge before researching proprietary/unknown traffic

• Reliability and documentation

  • Improved capture liveness/recovery behaviour
  • Database schema updated to v11
  • Updated CANsub, MCP, onboarding, troubleshooting and user workflow documentation
  • Improved developer setup/test instructions

Current direction

CAN Research remains an evidence-first, passive AI-assisted CAN engineering platform. The focus is increasingly on making the complete workflow practical in real engineering work:

connect → establish known knowledge → capture → mark experiments → analyse evidence → research only what remains unknown.

The Capture Marker Companion has passed local UI/startup acceptance testing; practical marker ergonomics will receive further validation on a real trial bus.
