The first public release of Breakpatch Community: free and open source (Apache 2.0), for one person on one Mac. It's a beta.

Install

Open Terminal and paste:

curl -fsSL https://breakpatch.dev/install | sh

It checks your Mac, downloads this release, checks it against the release's checksums and Breakpatch's signing certificate, puts Breakpatch in Applications and opens it. No password needed. On first launch, setup downloads the test browser and the AI assistant (about 3 GB, once). After that, Breakpatch updates itself.

What Community does

  • Record by clicking. Click through your web app, and a vision AI model on your Mac names each step, so tests read "Click New project", not coordinates.
  • Replay and see what broke. After every step, screen checks compare what's on screen with what you recorded. The report shows what was expected next to what was there, with Re-record this step, and Copy turns a failed step into Markdown for any issue tracker.
  • Every action a person does: clicks, typing, scrolling, drag and drop, uploads, downloads, tabs and popups, plus checkpoints, loops, shared steps and suites.
  • Tests are plain files: readable JSON in a folder you pick, so Git can be your history.
  • Private: the AI and your screens stay on your Mac. Breakpatch sends only anonymous daily counts, which you can turn off in Settings → Privacy.

Team and Business are coming later; their pricing isn't decided yet.

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later). Intel Macs aren't supported.
  • macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
  • 16 GB of memory or more.
  • About 3 GB of disk space for the AI assistant, plus the test browser.

It's a beta

Breakpatch works, but expect some rough edges. New betas arrive by themselves through the app's updates (Settings → About → Check for updates), and your tests stay as they are.
