The Binder
The Binder is the left panel where you organize everything in your universe. It works like a folder structure for your book.
Your content is grouped into sections:

Book — your novel or story collection

Chapter — a section of your book (lives inside a book)
- Scene — a single scene or beat (lives inside a chapter)

You build your manuscript by creating a Book, adding Chapters inside it, and writing Scenes inside each Chapter. When you publish, DasBook compiles them in order.
Profiles for the people, creatures, or entities in your story. Write down their appearance, personality, backstory — anything you need to keep consistent. The AI can see these when you ask it questions about your characters.
Track the chronological order of events. Useful for complex plots with flashbacks, parallel storylines, or stories that span long periods.
Reference material, notes, and sources. If you're researching Victorian London or deep-sea biology, put your notes here. The AI can reference these when helping you write.
Everything else — outlines, brainstorm dumps, writing exercises, planning notes. Documents can contain other documents (one level deep) if you want to group related notes together.
Every section header has a green + button. Click it, type a name, and press Enter.
For nested items:
- To add a Chapter, click + on the Books section, or use the + that appears when you hover over a Book
- To add a Scene, use the + that appears when you hover over a Chapter
The filter bar at the top of the Binder lets you show only specific types. Click a filter chip to see just Books, just Characters, just Research, etc. Click All to show everything again.
Every item shows its word count in the Binder. Parent items (Books, Chapters) show the total word count of everything inside them. These update automatically as you write.
The Binder panel has three tabs:

- Codex — your universe's rules and world facts (learn more)
- Boards — visual corkboard layouts for planning
