Your First Universe

A Universe is your top-level project in DasBook. Think of it as a container for everything related to one story world — your books, characters, research, timelines, and world-building rules.

Creating a Universe

  1. Click the + Universe button in the left sidebar
  2. Type a name (e.g., "My Fantasy Novel" or "Summer Mystery")
  3. Press Enter

That's it. You now have a blank workspace ready for your story.

What Goes Inside a Universe

Every universe can contain:

Item What It's For
Books The main container for your manuscript. A book holds chapters.
Chapters Sections of your book. Each chapter holds scenes.
Scenes The building blocks of your story. This is where you write.
Characters Profiles for the people (or creatures) in your story.
Timelines Track when things happen in your story's world.
Research Notes, references, and source material.
Documents Anything else — outlines, brainstorms, scratch notes.

Switching Between Universes

Use the dropdown at the top of the Binder panel to switch between universes. Each universe keeps its own separate content, AI rules, and codex.

Use AI Chat Instead of Clicking

You don't have to use the buttons and menus to set up your universe. Open the AI Chat (the floating button in the bottom-right corner) and just type what you need:

"Create a book called Sunflower Fields Forever. Add chapters called The Lobster, The Setup, and The Netting."

"Create a character called Sonny the Mockingbird."

"Add a research document called Migratory Habits of Sparrows."

The AI will create everything in your binder for you. You can build out an entire universe structure just by describing it in chat — no clicking through menus, no remembering which button does what.

This is especially helpful when you're brainstorming. Describe your ideas in chat, let the AI create the structure, then fill in the details later.

Note: Dictate (in the editor footer) is for typing with your voice into a document. The AI Chat is where you go to create and manage things hands-free.

Tips

  • Start with one universe per story world. If you're writing a series, all the books in that series can live in the same universe.
  • You can have as many universes as you want — they don't interfere with each other.
  • Each universe has its own AI rules and Codex, so the AI learns the specific rules of each world.
