TUI Architecture Handoff Report

🟡 STATUS: HISTORICAL RECORD (SUNSET ARCHITECTURE) This handoff report from March 24, 2026, details the final stabilization efforts made on the scripts/aim_config.py module before the monolithic Terminal User Interface was officially sunset during the Antigravity Migration. It is preserved strictly for historical, architectural context.

Date: March 24, 2026 Current Branch Focus: dev-tui / Bug Fix Integrations Primary Reference: TUI-Map.md

1. Final State of the Terminal User Interface (TUI)

We reached a heavy refinement phase for the Sovereign Cockpit (aim tui) prior to its deprecation. Our primary objective was stabilizing the Cognitive Health Check and the Provider Switching mechanisms.

Final Stabilizations

  1. Diagnostics Unmasked: We added a 'Diagnostics' column to the TUI Health Check table so that instead of throwing a generic "Red Bubble", the interface printed the exact raw Python Exception, HTTP Error, or JSON payload returned by the provider.
  2. Ollama Fallbacks: Fixed an empty-string bug that caused Ollama to throw 404 Not Found if a user pressed Enter without typing a model name.
  3. Google OAuth Delegation: Completely replaced the brittle REST API requests.post() logic for Google OAuth. A.I.M. natively executed the gemini CLI as a background subprocess, flawlessly hijacking the user's active session without needing API keys or gcloud. (Note: Superseded entirely by Native IDE API integrations in Antigravity).

2. The "Green Bubble" False-Positive Bug (Issue #11)

During the handoff, a devastating flaw was discovered in the Cognitive Health Check logic that threw the entire API/OAuth verification system into limbo.

The Bug: A user configured the anthropic provider but intentionally left the API key blank. The Health Check returned a Green Bubble and marked it as "OK".

The Root Cause: In scripts/aim_config.py, the test_provider function validated success using this logic:

if "OK" in resp or len(resp) < 50:
    return True, resp

Because the missing API key triggered the internal fallback response "Error: Anthropic API Key not found in vault.", the string length was 46 characters. Because 46 < 50, the TUI evaluated a fatal credential error as a massive success.

The Fix: The evaluation logic was strictly rewritten to intercept the word "Error" or "Exception" before checking the string length. The API verification became structurally sound.

3. Discontinuation

Following this stabilization phase, the architectural decision was made to deprecate aim_config.py entirely. The TUI was built on assumptions of terminal-native operations (pick, questionary libraries) which caused fatal UI hangs and blocking UI requests when triggered identically inside modern IDE agent environments like Antigravity.

All configuration is now definitively managed either directly via core/CONFIG.json or seamlessly via IDE Slash Workflows (/sync) and explicit Knowledge Items.
