Install or update
npx bookmark-research@latest install # interactive; macOS, Linux, Windows
bookmark-research update # if already installed
bookmark-research setup # choose where research goes and the Wiki follow-upChanges
- Research output location (
output.mode):central(default, path configurable) orbeside_input, which puts task folders next to the bookmark file or folder (card.bookmark-research/, never inside the original). Falls back to central for URL lists, multiple sources, git work trees, canvas packages and unwritable locations, and reports why.research_startalso accepts a one-offoutput_directory. - No migration: changing the setting affects new tasks only. A location registry keeps every task listed; deleted folders show as
missing. work/folder per task for the agent's intermediate files, returned byresearch_start.search_archive(new MCP tool andsearch-archiveCLI): literal full-text search over archived pages and all research evidence, merged by content hash; Chinese supported. The knowledge archive now stores identical page bodies once.- Wiki catalog: each write regenerates
wiki/index.mdand appends towiki/log.md. - Wiki follow-up (
wiki.after_research): afterresearch_finish, suggest pages and ask first (default), write automatically, or off. - Setup and status: two new setup questions;
statusshows storage locations and recent tasks. README adds a "Where data is stored" table. - Cross-platform: evidence paths are stored with
/, so task folders move between Windows, macOS and Linux.
Validation
482 regression tests pass in GitHub Actions on Ubuntu, macOS and Windows with Python 3.9 and 3.12. An isolated end-to-end run checked central, beside-input (folder, ZIP, single file), every fallback, explicit directories, listing after a directory change, Chinese search_archive and the Wiki catalog. Pi and real Windows client installs remain untested.
Assets: plugin ZIP, developer test pack and SHA256SUMS.

Install or update
npx bookmark-research@latest install # interactive; macOS, Linux, Windows
bookmark-research update # if already installedChanges
- Codex on Windows: the installer now registers a copy whose MCP command is the Python it detected, instead of
python3, which is often missing or a Microsoft Store stub on Windows.updaterefreshes that copy from the original source. Install Codex on Windows withbookmark-research install codex. - Windows environment: the MCP server receives
SystemRootandwindir, which older Codex builds stripped and Python networking needs. bookmark-research statusshows the detected Python and the MCP command written into client configs.- README lists the bundle by layer: one Skill, one local MCP server (36 tools), the remote MCPs it calls (Exa, Parallel, Tavily), Jina Reader, and optional client MCPs.
Validation
452 regression tests pass in GitHub Actions on Ubuntu, macOS and Windows with Python 3.9 and 3.12, plus an npm pack and install smoke test. Codex on native Windows is covered by simulated tests, not yet by a real Windows machine. Pi has not been tested on a real machine.
Assets: plugin ZIP, developer test pack and SHA256SUMS.
Bookmark Research 0.5.0-beta.1
Bookmark Research 0.5.0 beta 1
Beta. Installation and configuration are new; please report problems on GitHub Issues.
Install
npx bookmark-research install # interactive; macOS, Linux, Windows
npm install -g bookmark-research # keep the bookmark-research command
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Browser-bookmark-hub/Bookmark-Research/main/install.sh | bash # macOS/Linux without NodeRequires Python 3.9+ with SQLite FTS5 and at least one client CLI: Codex, Claude Code, Pi or DSH.
What's new
bookmark-researchcommand (npm; macOS, Linux and native Windows): a menu plusinstall, update, verify, setup, status, configanddoctor.updateandverifycover every installed client.- Guided installer: select several clients at once with arrow keys and Space (detected CLIs preselected), set scope or DSH profile, confirm a summary, then run one shared setup. Plain numbered prompts when no full terminal is available.
- Native registration for all four clients, verified after installation: Codex marketplace, Claude Code marketplace and plugin,
pi install, dsh plugin add. DSH checks forpnpmfirst. - API keys: masked entry, checked immediately, retry on failure, stored in a private local file; environment variables take precedence. Keys are never accepted in chat, arguments or JSON.
- Readiness check (
research_readinesstool) before web research, with cached, always and manual modes. - Windows: UTF-8 I/O, byte-exact evidence files,
.cmdclient shims and interpreter paths in exported MCP configs. - Shorter README with per-client install commands, an install prompt for agents, and key and tool tables; reference material moved to
docs/details.en.mdanddocs/details.md.
Validation
450 regression tests pass in GitHub Actions on Ubuntu, macOS and Windows with Python 3.9 and 3.12, plus an npm pack and install smoke test. Real installations were checked on macOS for Claude Code 2.1.280 and DSH 0.1.5-rc.1 (36 MCP tools each).
Not yet tested: Pi on a real machine, and client installs on native Windows. Codex on Windows starts its MCP with python3 from the repository manifest, which may be missing there.
Assets
Plugin ZIP, developer test pack and SHA256SUMS. Both ZIPs include MANIFEST.sha256 and exclude user exports, snapshots, databases and credentials.
Bookmark Research v0.2.0
Bookmark Research 0.2.0 adds aggregated web retrieval and resumable, evidence-based research to the standalone Bookmark Canvas plugin.
- One MCP, three providers: Exa, Parallel and optional Tavily share provider-specific adapters, validated tool schemas, reusable sessions, classified failures and usage records. Tool calls are never automatically retried.
- Durable research: 16 MCP tools cover local queries, retrieval and research. Save the brief, selected bookmark context, budgets, source snapshots, exact quotations, claims and conflicts. Resume an incomplete report while retaining its earlier artifacts and spent budget.
- Installation and distribution: a Python CLI provides install, update and verification commands. Export the shared runtime for Codex, Claude Code, Pi, DSH or Agent Plugins.
- Reviewable evidence: the research report audits all 207 original research URLs. A separate test pack includes synthetic canvas data, recorded public provider schemas and the offline verifier.
Downloads and installation
bookmark-research-0.2.0.zip: plugin, runtime, installer and documentation.bookmark-research-test-pack-0.2.0.zip: the plugin plus tests and synthetic fixtures.SHA256SUMS: SHA-256 checksums for both ZIPs. Each ZIP also contains its ownMANIFEST.sha256.
Extract the plugin ZIP, keep the directory at a stable location, and run:
python3 scripts/install.py install
python3 scripts/install.py verifyStart a new Codex thread to load the updated Skill and tools. Requires Python 3.9+, SQLite FTS5 and a Codex CLI with plugin commands.
Validation and boundaries
The source and extracted test pack each passed all 183 tests, with no skips. The supplied 638-bookmark example package was checked without changing its files. Independent review exercised interrupted operations, report recovery, large evidence pagination and visible retracted claims.
All three providers have successful real search and fetch evidence. The original provider smoke retains its initial Exa connection failure, with the successful explicit follow-up recorded separately. A real host-led research run completed two search rounds and preserved a conflicting documentation snapshot as an explicit limitation.
Research is driven by the host model; this release does not execute provider-native paid Deep Research tasks or OAuth flows. Claude Code, Pi and DSH exports and runtime were checked; their in-client loading remains unverified. Thirteen relevant public research pages could not be retrieved and are recorded as unavailable.
See the installation guide, design research, and validation record.
Bookmark Research v0.1.0
Initial standalone release of Bookmark Research, extracted from Bookmark Canvas.
- Shared Skill, Python CLI, and local MCP server for bookmark queries and Exa / Parallel research.
- Native Codex plugin with a repository marketplace for direct GitHub installation.
- Export adapters for Claude Code, Pi, DSH, and the separate Agent Plugins 1.0.0 format.
- English README and installation guide, with the original GPL-3.0 license retained.
Download bookmark-research-0.1.0.zip, extract it to a permanent directory, and follow docs/installation.md. The archive includes the source and adapters; it excludes tests, personal bookmarks, databases, credentials, and web archives. A SHA-256 checksum file is included.
Validation: 110 automated tests passed; Codex plugin and marketplace validation passed; extracted CLI, all four export formats, ZIP contents, and rebuild checks passed. Native MCP calls were previously verified in Codex CLI 0.153.4. Claude Code, Pi, and DSH client loading remains to be verified.
