NOTE: LCOS 0.7.1 is a hotfix release for LCOS 0.7, specifically addressing one USB boot issue on some configurations.
This is the third Beta release (0.7) of The Lunduke Computer Operating System (LCOS).
The most critical change in this release is the inclusion of Lunduke's Linux Kernel, based on Linux 7.2.6 (with no Rust, and custom build settings), as the default kernel. While this change has undergone a great deal of testing (both manual and automated), the scope of this change means that unexpected issues are a virtual certainty on some hardware configurations. Report any hardware or boot issues here on GitHub, on X (@LundukeJournal), or on Forum.Lunduke.com.
Some Noteworthy Changes from 0.6 to 0.7:
- The LCOS custom "Lunduke's Linux Kernel" is now the default kernel, based on the latest Linux Kernel release (without Rust).
- Included support for additional hardware.
- Lunduke Edit is now the default text editor.
- A new "About This Computer" display which is more in line with the LCOS design philosophy (includes running GUI apps, their memory usage, and the ability to force close them).
- Lunduke Paint updated to 0.7.
- Lunduke City added -- a hard fork of Micropolis (the open sourced SimCity), with a brand new UI, rewritten to be both a) modern and b) more in line with vintage, classic SimCity.
- Minor fixes to improve wallpaper handling, boot animations, and status items.
Reminder: LCOS 0.7 is a Beta release and, while it is a fully functional (and awesome) system, it is primarily for testing purposes.
