This is the fourth Beta release (0.8) of The Lunduke Computer Operating System (LCOS).
This is a pretty massive update to the LCOS Beta. Significant improvements to hardware support (both bare metal and virtual machine), as well as numerous bug fixes throughout the system. From 0.8 onward, LCOS is laser focused on bug fixing until it is ready for a 1.0 release.
Because of the significant improvements to hardware support (and the kernel), a fresh install is recommended to properly test 0.8. Upgrading from the previous release will work, but a new installation is best.
Some Noteworthy Changes from 0.7 to 0.8:
- Improved hardware support, including: Apple trackpad, laptop hotkeys, additional Broadcom Wifi, Marvell Wifi, better USB4 / C support, better X86 Mac support, better laptop sound profiles, thunderbolt support, and more.
- Improved VM support: VMWare SCSI drive support, QEMU Mouse capture bug fixed, etc..
- Lunduke City: bug fixes.
- Lunduke Edit: bug fixes.
- Lunduke Paint: bug fixes.
- About This Computer: bug fixes and supporters display updated.
- Some additional command line tools are now installed (xz, unzip, etc.).
- Various minor UI tweaks and improvements (including the boot animation and the top desktop panel).
- New build of Lunduke's Linux Kernel (still based on Linux 7.2.6 without Rust, and with custom build settings).
- Other bug fixes.
Reminder: LCOS 0.8 is a Beta release and, while it is a fully functional (and awesome) system, it is primarily for testing purposes. Report any hardware or boot issues here on GitHub, on X (@LundukeJournal), or on Forum.Lunduke.com.
