Releases: Buoy-gg/Buoy-Desktop
Release list
Buoy Desktop 2.0.21
Four new panels: Clock, Lifecycle, Location and Permissions.
Now only Buoy Desktop and the Buoy MCP can read your app's data. Get @buoy-gg/mcp 7.0.44 or newer. An old MCP will not work with this app.

Buoy Desktop 2.0.17
- Free-tier account keys are now signed tokens that the desktop verifies on the device; they never contact the license server.
- Paid keys validate through buoy.gg's cached license endpoint instead of Keygen directly, so a fleet of devices can no longer exhaust the daily quota.
- Rate-limited answers are honored and a cached verdict stands in, so a temporary limit never signs anyone out.

Buoy Desktop 2.0.16
A clearer message when a build can't update itself.
If Buoy ever hits an update failure it cannot recover from, the pill now says what happened and takes you to the download page, instead of showing a raw filesystem error and offering a retry that can never work.
Nothing else changed. If you are on 2.0.14 or earlier, that build still cannot download its own update — grab a build from this page by hand once, and updates install themselves from then on.

Buoy Desktop 2.0.15
Fixes automatic updates, which have never actually worked.
Buoy correctly noticed each new version and then failed to download it:
Download failed for 2.0.14: ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '…/Buoy.app/Contents/Resources/app-update.yml'
The updater reads its provider config from one place when checking and a different place when downloading, and the file the download path needed was never being generated. Buoy now ships it, and refuses to package a build without it.
You have to install this one by hand — the broken updater cannot fetch its own fix. Download below, replace your existing Buoy.app, and updates will install themselves from here on.
Present since 2.0.12; nothing else in the app is affected.

Buoy Desktop 2.0.14
Camera — point the iOS Simulator at something real.
The simulator has no camera. Buoy gives it one: pick a source on your Mac and every booted simulator sees it as a real AVCaptureDevice, with nothing to install in the app under test.
- Sources — your Mac camera, an image, a video, a test pattern, a generated QR/barcode, or a live region of your screen (drag a rectangle; the camera follows it).
- Scanning — QR and the full barcode symbology set, fast enough to track a code you move by hand.
- Zero setup — one click attaches to every booted simulator, and the panel tells you whether the app is actually receiving frames instead of just claiming to stream.
- Diagnostics — when a library refuses to look at the fabricated device, the panel says so and offers the codemod.
- Agent control — nine new camera actions in the Buoy MCP server, so an agent can drive the simulator's camera directly.
Free covers the Mac camera, images, video, the test pattern and QR. Pro adds the screen region, every non-QR symbology, and the MCP tools.
Also in this build: tool panel headers now drag the window, and per-tool status badges stop counting events no panel would ever show.

- Sign in with your browser: License > Sign in opens buoy.gg and hands your key back automatically — no more copy/pasting keys.
- Routes: the Events tab's Go button now navigates the connected device, nested static routes (e.g. tab screens) show up in the sitemap, and the Stack tab works with Expo Router SDK 54+.
- New background picker with the merged Deep Field sky; tool panels now share one background field.
- Troubleshooting: the no-devices panel now starts with the most common cause — @buoy-gg/external-sync not installed in the app.
- Fixed devices appearing offline when connected through multiple sockets.
