DOSBox Pure Standalone — Release Notes (2026-08-26)
This Windows x64 release adds reliable virtual-CD mounting for nested ZIP
containers larger than 2 GiB.
What changed
- Preserves 64-bit file positions through local, ZIP, writable overlay, and
mirror handles. - Supports
IMGMOUNT D C:\CD.ZIP -t zipfor large nested ZIP data CDs. - Registers the mounted ZIP drive with MSCDEX for normal game CD detection.
- Keeps the nested archive memory/archive-backed without reconstructing it on
disk. - Adds the command, lowercase
ziprequirement, limits, and storage advice to
makegame --helpand the project documentation.
Store an already-compressed nested ZIP without further compression in the outer
archive when practical. Individual files inside the nested ZIP remain limited
to 4 GiB minus one byte, and the completed standalone executable must remain
smaller than 4 GiB because of the Windows loader limit.
Validation highlights
- Ripper mounted a 3,090,933,320-byte nested
CD.ZIP, detected drive D as a
CD-ROM, and entered the game. - A deterministic entry beyond 2 GiB and an external ZIP64 entry beyond 4 GiB
were both read successfully. - The embedded-resource and internal-disk-image regression package exited with
code 0 and retained both expected markers. ReleaseGLCORE | x64built with zero warnings and errors.- The self-contained .NET 8 package builder published successfully.
- Process Monitor found no nested ZIP or game-content reconstruction on disk.
No game content is included. Generated executables are unsigned.
