Welcome to the MIDI-Rocker-LX wiki!
The source code in this repository is for the firmware used in the ByteArts MIDI Rocker LX adapter. This adapter is a MIDI-to-USB converter that emulates the Rock Band or Guitar Hero drum controller for the PS3 or Wii. The user's guide and other information about the MIDI Rocker is available at bytearts.com.
The MIDI Rocker uses the Microchip PIC18F4550 processor, and was originally written using the V8.89 of MPLAB IDE and the MPLAB C18 compiler, and V2012-10-15 of the Microchip Application Library. These tools are available for free from the Microchip website.
In addition to the code in this repository, you will need the Microchip Application Library, specifically the USB client device modules. This code was written using the 2012-10-15 version of the Application Libraries -- it should work with newer versions as well, but may require some modifications. The projects in this repository are set up to find the needed Application Library modules in a subfolder called 'Microchip' -- you can either copy the needed files from the location where the Application Library puts them (usually C:\Microchip Solutions XXXX\Microchip...) or edit the project properties to point to where the files are located on your PC.
There are several different MPLAB project files in the repository -- each project targets a different platform (Playstation, Wii or Xbox), but all projects use the same source code (each project file has DEFINES to select the specified platform). Note that selecting the Xbox target does not mean you can make an adapter that can be plugged right into an Xbox to play Rock Band -- the Xbox target project depends on having a 'hacked' drum controller which the MIDI Rocker is connected to so that it can send pulses to the Xbox controller to activate a 'drum hit' on the Xbox.
The hardware design schematics and PCB files are available upon request from ByteArts by contacting info@bytearts.com.
