This release summarizes the evolution from the original core tiler script to the current advanced build.

Highlights

  • Added a Layout Manager (Ctrl+Alt+P) for manual layout selection and slot-based window assignment.
  • Added Auto-Compact on Minimize and Auto-Compact on Close (hybrid behavior).
  • Improved workspace reliability (WS1/WS2/WS3) with stronger state isolation and switch handling.
  • Improved move workspace to next monitor behavior and edge-case handling.
  • Improved single-monitor UX with clearer feedback when monitor move is unavailable.
  • Improved quit behavior so app shutdown is cleaner when UI dialogs are open.

UX / Interaction Improvements

  • Better tray + hotkey integration for advanced actions.
  • Workspace-aware layout control flow in the manager.
  • Improved manager positioning and visual clarity (active context badges, cleaner labels).
  • Better guardrails around partial layout application cases.

Stability and Correctness Improvements

  • Fixed race conditions around workspace switching and retile timing.
  • Improved compact-on-minimize robustness (reduced missed first-pass compaction).
  • Improved cleanup paths for state maps and runtime transitions.
  • Hardened manager open/close lifecycle to avoid lockups and inconsistent states.

What Changed in Daily Usage

  • You can keep fully dynamic tiling and still manually force a layout when needed.
  • Compact behavior now keeps layouts tighter when windows are minimized/closed.
  • Workspace transitions are more predictable with less cross-workspace leakage.
  • Advanced controls are available directly from tray/hotkeys without breaking flow.

Compatibility Notes

  • Works on Windows 10/11 with Python + Win32 stack (pywin32, pystray, Pillow).
  • As before, some apps may still resist strict tiling APIs depending on their window model.

Upgrade Notes

  • Existing hotkeys stay consistent, with Ctrl+Alt+P now opening the Layout Manager.
  • If any hotkey fails to register, another application is likely already using the same global shortcut.
