Orbit 0.21.0 — Terminal Setup workspace

Choose a tag to compare

@CNRNYK CNRNYK released this 04 Oct 11:06
7dc04ce

Terminal Setup now has three focused tabs: Environment, Shell & Appearance, and Changes & Backups.

  • Automatically discover profile configuration and tool paths; explicitly verify versions without sourcing profiles.
  • Start from developer presets, read project requirements, choose runtime versions and review optional pnpm/Yarn setup.
  • Customize shell tools, aliases, Starship themes and Git identity while preserving external configuration.
  • Review Homebrew installs, runtime downloads and exact file changes separately. Git/theme changes receive the same private backups and stale-file protection as profiles.
  • Export portable setup choices without Git identity, custom aliases, profiles, history or SSH keys. Import prepares choices only.

Fixed generated shell plugin quoting and highlighted-command initialization ordering. Shared operation guards prevent package/recording actions overlapping runtime setup.

Validation: full regression suite, isolated profile/project fixtures, fake runtime execution, 18 official Homebrew formula checks, three native tab previews, optimized build/self-test, native menu/window smoke checks and mounted DMG signature/version/self-test. Actual runtime installations were not run on the developer's machine.

Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later. Drag Orbit.app to Applications. Early-access beta; ad-hoc signed, not notarized. Existing permissions and application identity remain unchanged.

Orbit v0.20.1 — Close to menu bar

@CNRNYK CNRNYK released this 04 Oct 10:28
db1a73f

Closing the main window now hides Orbit from the Dock while keeping its menu bar controls and ongoing operations. Open Orbit restores the window and Dock icon; minimized windows retain their Dock icon. The default-on preference can be changed in Setup Center > Startup. Quit behavior and existing operation safeguards remain in place.

Validation: regression suite, native close/reopen and preference policy checks, minimizing, simulated recording/operation preservation, optimized executable self-test and mounted DMG validation passed.

Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. Early-access beta; ad-hoc signed, not notarized.

Orbit v0.20.0 — Recorder timeline editor

@CNRNYK CNRNYK released this 04 Oct 10:12
32e0e4d

Screen Recorder now has Record, Edit and Settings tabs. Drag Start/End handles on one thumbnail timeline to inspect the exact cut points. Choose Keep selected range or Remove selected range, preview the edited result and save a new copy while keeping the original. Frame-step adjustment, selection reset, pinned preview/save actions, existing-video import and configurable automatic output folders are included.

Validation: generated-video regression tests, both handle seeks, keep/remove exports, thumbnail extraction, original preservation, native playback/menu checks, visual inspection and mounted DMG self-test passed. Hardware capture and macOS permission prompts were not exercised.

Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. Early-access beta; ad-hoc signed, not notarized.

@CNRNYK CNRNYK released this 04 Oct 09:43
cf27a1d

A simpler menu-bar Screen Capture card combines screenshots and recording with a shared mode selector. Start recording directly in the selected mode; choose a window in the menu when needed. Update, App Health Check and operation details shortcuts remain accessible in the main app.

Requires macOS 14+, Apple Silicon. Early-access beta, ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Regression tests, native menu smoke checks, rendered preview, DMG validation and mounted executable self-test passed.

1ac807f

Orbit 0.19.0

  • Homebrew Center: unified Discover search, Library filters and reviewed manual app removal with exact matching leftovers.
  • Capture: automatic recording filenames, finalized preview, keep/remove interval editing, menu bar screenshots and icon annotation tools.
  • Setup Center: requirements, optional permissions and Orbit startup together. Login apps load with existing access; app selection opens Applications.
  • Feature-based source/test organization and refreshed README, screenshots and contributor documentation.

Delivered through PRs #23, #24 and #25.

Validation

Full fixture regression suite, generated MP4/audio editing and decoding, optimized build, native menu/completion navigation smoke checks, rendered app previews, signature and mounted DMG validation. Tests did not install/remove real apps or capture user screens, audio or camera. Hardware capture and installed-build permissions still need device acceptance.

Install

Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. Drag Orbit.app to Applications. This private release requires repository access. The build is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. SHA-256 is attached.

Orbit 0.18.0 — Homebrew Center

@CNRNYK CNRNYK released this 04 Oct 05:00
b0ebbcb

Homebrew Center brings Orbit’s app management into one place.

  • One sidebar destination with Discover, Installed, Updates and My Apps icon tabs.
  • Discover switches between the Curated starter catalog and All Homebrew, with shared search and source retention while switching tabs.
  • A shared To install panel across all four tabs.
  • Installation choices survive Installed-tab visits and remain separate from removal choices and update selections.
  • Saved installation choices are preserved when Orbit is reopened, including after using Installed.
  • Category navigation inside Curated/Installed, clearer compact controls and refreshed README screenshots.

Automated selection/persistence tests, the production build, native menu/window smoke test and demonstration UI layouts passed. No real package installation or removal was performed during testing.

Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. Drag Orbit.app into Applications. This private release is ad-hoc signed and not notarized.

Choose a tag to compare

@CNRNYK CNRNYK released this 04 Oct 04:35
0fbc652

Orbit 0.17.0 adds tools for Mac permissions, app health, startup apps and annotated captures.

  • Permission Center: status, explicit Request/Verify actions and macOS Settings links; permission status is also shown in setup and installation review.
  • App Health Check: diagnostic Homebrew, dependency, managed app bundle and Orbit helper checks.
  • Login Items: enable Orbit at login; load, add or remove selected standard startup apps. Background services open in native Settings.
  • Recording Annotations: arrows, boxes, pen, highlights and text, plus a visible capture-region border. Annotations are saved in video; the border and controls are excluded.
  • Screenshot Studio: full display, area or window capture, annotation/redaction tools, clipboard PNG and new-file PNG export.
  • Sidebar and menu bar access for the new tools.

Automated tests, real local MP4 encoding/decoding, native UI fixtures and mounted DMG checks passed. Live consent prompts, screen capture and login registration still need on-device acceptance testing.

Apple Silicon, macOS 14+. Drag Orbit.app into Applications. This private release is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Keep one installed copy; macOS may request reopening or reauthorizing Orbit after a permission change. No automatic recording, login-item changes, repair or upload is performed.

Orbit 0.16.3 — Screen permission refresh fix

Choose a tag to compare

@CNRNYK CNRNYK released this 03 Oct 20:39
378cf55

Fix Screen Recording source refresh incorrectly stopping on a legacy permission preflight before querying ScreenCaptureKit. Refresh now uses ScreenCaptureKit directly, clears stale errors/selections, and shows real macOS error codes when access is refused. Permissions are never bypassed or reset automatically.

Full regression tests and DMG verification passed. Live installed-copy authorization needs confirmation on the affected Mac. Quit the previous Orbit and replace it in Applications. macOS 14+, Apple Silicon; ad-hoc signed, not notarized.

Orbit 0.16.2 — Compact recording controls

Choose a tag to compare

@CNRNYK CNRNYK released this 03 Oct 20:28
5d2f40e
  • Open compact floating recording controls from the menu without bringing the main Orbit window forward.
  • Choose Full screen, Area or Window; press Start in the panel and use Pause/Resume/Stop there.
  • Compact recordings save automatically to Movies/Orbit Recordings with unique filenames. Opening controls does not start capture. The main recorder still provides advanced settings and its save dialog.
  • Fix the clipped capture selector in the menu panel.

Automated tests, generated media tests, native background-controls smoke test, interface review and verified DMG passed. Real screen/camera/microphone recording is not exercised by these tests.

Quit the previous Orbit before replacing it in Applications. Requires macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon. Ad-hoc signed, not notarized.

Orbit 0.16.1 — Video preview crash fix

Choose a tag to compare

@CNRNYK CNRNYK released this 03 Oct 19:51
6544451

Fix a crash when opening the completed-recording video preview on macOS 27.0.1. Orbit now uses the native macOS video player directly, retaining playback controls and trim-to-copy.

The original failure was reproduced locally before the fix. Regression tests cover opening a generated MP4, playback, switching recordings and releasing the player. The full suite, menu smoke test, preview render, app build and DMG checks passed.

Quit Orbit fully before replacing the app in Applications. Requires macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon. This build is ad-hoc signed, not notarized. Real screen/camera/microphone capture acceptance remains to be verified separately.
