Audio System Is Too Limited and Not Editor-Friendly #61

Description

@Chea-Ilong

Problem

The current audio workflow has several UX and functionality issues:

  • Audio files cannot be dragged into the main Assets panel. Users have to specifically drag them into the Audio panel, which feels inconsistent compared to other assets.
  • The audio system only supports a single audio file. Adding another audio file overwrites the existing one instead of allowing multiple audio tracks.
  • Dragging audio automatically adds it directly to the timeline, making it impossible to manage audio assets separately before using them.
  • The same audio file cannot be reused multiple times on the timeline because adding it again overwrites the previous instance.
  • This limitation makes it impossible to create proper sound design workflows, such as adding multiple sound effects, background music, and voice tracks together.
  • Audio clips cannot be selected or edited after adding them.
  • Unlike other editable elements, audio does not have a property panel.

Expected behavior

Audio assets should be manageable separately and support multiple reusable clips and tracks. Selecting an audio clip should open an audio property panel similar to modern video editors such as CapCut, with controls for:

  • Fade in and fade out
  • Volume / decibel slider
  • Trim controls
  • Playback settings
  • Audio duration and timing adjustments
  • Other audio-specific properties

Audio should support full sound-design workflows rather than functioning only as basic background music.
