CairnMP 2.3.1 (beta)
This beta uses protocol 15. Taking up someone else's piton is now reported to the
host, and the race and revive features changed their messages: every player in a lobby
must run CairnMP 2.3.1.
Changed
- Free solo keeps its word: death is final. A camp no longer brings the fallen back in
this mode; they keep watching, as the mode says.
Fixed
- The game mode picked in the panel is applied: every lobby used to be created as Rope
team. Every client now knows the lobby's mode from the moment it joins. /recapwith three or more players no longer starts a stream of replies that never
ends.- Race: the host referees the finish, so two climbers topping out together no longer
each see themselves as the winner. A latecomer no longer misses the start, and is told
who already won. - Downed climbers stay clipped to their partner, so carrying them costs endurance as
intended. The revive prompt's collider is kept on ghosts, and a ghost that spawned as
a placeholder is rebuilt as the real climber once the game can provide it. - Who is down is known to latecomers too. The last climber to fall now tells the others,
and a run that ends no longer announces the climber back on their feet. - Rescues are confirmed by the host before the healing item is spent: two rescuers
reaching the same body no longer lose an item each, and a rescue from out of reach is
refused. A call back to camp is only accepted from a climber actually at one. - Calling the fallen back to camp with R works, and a teammate sitting at camp counts
as still standing. - Ending a session while down plays the death out instead of leaving the climber in a
dead body with no menu. - Pitons: taking up a piton someone else placed removes it for everyone, so it can no
longer end up in two bags. Pitons placed while a player is loading, camping or still in
the menu are no longer lost. After a reload, saved pitons are recognised instead of
being announced again as duplicates. - A client that restarts its game and rejoins can give and drop items again straight
away. - Ground items: an item being picked up keeps its place, so a full ground no longer
destroys it. Stale ground-item icons are cleaned up. - Trail marks are drawn again after a camp or a reload, and climb trails are kept.
- A camping player's ghost is hidden instead of standing at the world origin, and
players who left no longer come back as frozen ghosts. - A stuck bivouac flag no longer suspends synchronization every few seconds.
- Voice: output is kept for 30 seconds of silence, so the start of a sentence is no
longer lost; mutes survive scene changes; the speaking icon stays visible. - The CairnMP settings button is no longer duplicated after a camp, and the fallback
panel no longer leaks resources each time it opens. - Quitting to the main menu from the pause menu no longer leaves the chat closed and the
main menu counted as gameplay. - One malformed packet no longer stops the host from reading the others, and animation
positions are bounded like every other position. - Accepting a Steam invite while already in a lobby leaves that lobby first. A failed
create or join updates the panel from the game thread.
Compatibility
- Protocol 14 → 15:
ClientPitonRecoveredandServerPitonRecoveredare new, and
theraceandrevivefeature contracts changed. All lobby members must use this
exact version. - The loader is MelonLoader under its own name again, installed by the launcher in the
game'sMelonLoaderfolder.
Beta notes
- These fixes are covered by the test suites and build against the game, but none has
been played in a live two-client session yet. - This is the first release published from GitHub: the launcher installs it directly,
without the releases console.
CairnMP 2.2.17
Hotfix stable
Cette version corrige plusieurs problèmes apparus ou identifiés après la 2.2.16 :
- réduction des crashs natifs pendant les chargements et les déconnexions grâce à un nettoyage plus sûr des objets Unity liés au vocal ;
- fin des faux passages répétés entre
InGameetLoadingpendant le streaming des scènes additives ; - occlusion réaliste du chat vocal à travers les rochers, avec volume atténué, aigus étouffés et légère réflexion ;

CairnMP 2.2.16
Stable release — rebuilt
CairnMP 2.2.16 promotes the 2.2 series to the stable channel. This rebuilt
publication includes the corrected multiplayer save-selection flow.
Controller support
- Added a View/Share/Create modifier layout for cooperative ropes, shared-item
pickup and inventory actions, player names, push-to-talk, the multiplayer
panel, and emergency input release. - Temporarily captures Cairn gameplay input before accepting a controller chord,
preventing the mod action and the native face-button action from firing
together. - Added controller focus and navigation to both multiplayer-panel renderers.
Fixed
- Moved keyboard cooperative-rope attachment from E to L, keeping Cairn's native
piton interactions exclusive to E. - Restored Cairn's native save-selection screen when starting multiplayer, so
each player can resume an existing save or choose a new slot instead of being
sent directly into new-game creation. - Preserved the zero-slack emergency detach behavior on both keyboard and
controller.
Compatibility and verification
- Internal mod version 2.2.16, release tag v2.2.16-r2 because GitHub
permanently reserves the deleted immutablev2.2.16tag. - Protocol 13; every lobby member must install exactly version 2.2.16.
- Release suite passed: 291/291 tests.
- Text chat and manual lobby-code entry still require keyboard or platform text
input; hosting and public-lobby browsing are controller-accessible. - Two-client controller and native Linux/macOS audio hardware validation remains
recommended.

CairnMP 2.2.15 (beta)
Added
- Cross-platform proximity voice: WASAPI on Windows/Proton and OpenAL on native Linux/macOS.
- Cairn acoustic zones extend shared-room voice from 40 m to 70 m with bounded echo/reverb.
- Stronger player localization through full stereo direction and a small interaural delay.
Fixed
- Player-to-player ropes now start at the live harness distance with bounded slack instead of spawning fully paid out.
- Runtime rope renderers receive their native rope-part references, preventing segments from stretching toward the horizon.
- Aava's harness is visible while players are linked and restores safely after detaching or placing a real piton.
Compatibility and verification
- Protocol 13; every lobby member must install exactly version 2.2.15.
- Release suite passed: 283/283 tests.
- Native Linux requires
libopenal.so.1. - Linux/macOS physical microphone and output validation is still pending.

CairnMP 2.2.14 (beta)
Fixes
- Free Roam is now enabled before Cairn performs its one-time difficulty-button initialization.
- Multiplayer launches now display the native Free Roam option alongside Explorer, Alpinist, and Free Solo.
- This completes the 2.2.13 launch-flow fix by removing the initialization race that kept the Free Roam button absent.
Compatibility and verification
- Protocol 13; every lobby member must install exactly version 2.2.14.
- Test suite passed: 272/272.
- Runtime debugging confirmed that one Free Roam mode out of four is unhidden before button construction, and Cairn's native menu log confirms creation of the Free Roam UI.
CairnMP 2.2.13 (beta)
Fixes
- Multiplayer launch now opens Cairn's native difficulty-selection screen before save selection.
- Free Roam can therefore be selected again when creating a new multiplayer game.
Compatibility and verification
- Protocol 13; every lobby member must install exactly version 2.2.13.
- Test suite passed: 272/272. A two-account in-game validation is still required for native physics, saves, weather, and animations.
CairnMP 2.2.12 (beta)
Changes
- Native Cairn integrations now use Cpp2IL-verified generated APIs for managers, local-player state, lamps, remote animation frames, pitons, and the main-menu transition.
- Remote pitons now use the native
AddPitonoverload with the local climbing controller.
Fixes
- Opening the pause menu now closes multiplayer chat and releases input capture correctly.
- The local player remains synchronized while the multiplayer pause menu is open.
- Disconnecting correctly returns weather, wind, and the day/night cycle to Cairn.
Compatibility and verification
- Protocol 13; every lobby member must install exactly version 2.2.12.
- Test suite passed: 271/271. A two-account in-game validation is still required for native physics, saves, weather, and animations.
CairnMP 2.2.1 Beta
CairnMP 2.2.1 Beta
This beta fixes how a climber's pose is replicated to the other players, the source of the T-pose reports.
Compatibility: the network protocol is unchanged (13), but lobby admission compares the full mod version. Every player in a lobby must install 2.2.1.
Coming from 1.x or 2.1.0: this package also contains everything introduced by the 2.2.0 beta — item sharing, ground items and chat command completion. See the changelog for that entry.
Fixes
- Remote climbers no longer freeze in a T-pose, most often reported while two players climb at the same time. Pose frames captured during a mode transition — a secured fall, an abseil, moving between wall and ground — were discarded instead of sent, and the partner stopped being animated within half a second.
- A climber is no longer replicated as walking with free hands when the native capture is briefly unavailable. That wrong state also opened the teleport check, which is only meant to accept a partner standing on the ground.
- Pose frames are no longer truncated to 128 bones while the receiving side expects every bone, a mismatch that could leave a remote player unanimated.
- A remote player whose pose is refused now follows its owner's position instead of staying frozen where its last accepted frame left it.
- Release checks build and run again: the Roslyn 5.9 dependency update had left the lock files behind, so dependency restore failed and part of the test suite did not compile.
Beta notes
- These fixes come from reading the game's own capture and replication code. They still need two-player validation while roped and climbing simultaneously — reports welcome.
- If a T-pose still shows up, the session log under
UserData/CairnMultiplayer/Logsnow names the cause: look forUsing root pose fallbackon the machine that sees it, andCapture player NetFrame unavailableon the machine that shows it.

CairnMP 2.1.0 Beta
CairnMP 2.1.0 Beta
This beta introduces experimental proximity voice chat and the new feature framework.
Compatibility: protocol 13 is not compatible with CairnMP 1.x. Every player in a lobby must install version 2.1.0.
Highlights
- Proximity voice chat with voice activation enabled by default, push-to-talk, microphone mute, distance attenuation and stereo positioning.
- Dedicated Settings > CairnMP page for microphone selection, sensitivity, voice volume, push-to-talk binding, local microphone testing and per-player mute controls.
- New scoped feature contracts and real-time network channel.
- Chat, pings, weather/time, sleeping, appearance and hand poses migrated to the new feature framework.
- Multiplayer menu polished to better match Cairn's native interface.
- Voice device discovery moved outside the game loop to prevent frame hitches.
- Reliability, cleanup, rope, bivouac, late-join and diagnostic fixes.
Beta limitations
- Voice capture currently supports Windows through WASAPI only.
- Echo cancellation, noise suppression and wall occlusion are not included yet. Headphones are recommended with voice activation.
- Settings and local microphone playback were validated in game. Two-player voice quality still requires broader community testing.

Mod 1.1.0
Cairn Multiplayer Mod 1.1.0
Network protocol is unchanged (still version 7): 1.1.0 and 1.0.0 clients can
still play together.
Pair this with launcher 0.1.7, which fixes mods failing to load for
players whose Windows account name contains an accent.
Added
- Extension API — other mods can register their own state, events and
commands and have them synchronized across a session, without touching
CairnMP's networking. Handlers run in a transaction: a rejected or throwing
command rolls back every managed effect, and a misbehaving extension is
isolated behind its own circuit breaker instead of taking the session down.
Seedocs/multiplayer-api.md. VerboseLoggingis now a MelonPreferences entry, so verbose logs can be
toggled from the config file instead of needing a rebuild.
Fixed
- The Multiplayer button no longer shows "Story" while opening the
multiplayer panel. - Roping — unclipping from a partner now cleans up the native belay
properly, and remote piton references are cleared on reset instead of
pointing at stale objects. - Extension sessions are finalized when a session ends, and Steam diagnostics
no longer report a stale state.
Changed
- Crash reports carry a stable fingerprint and the tail of
CairnLoader/Latest.log. Every occurrence of a bug used to be filed as a
separate report with no log attached, which made most of them impossible to
act on.
Contributors
Thanks to @nullbrik for their first
contributions to CairnMP — #1 and #2:
- Exposed
VerboseLoggingas a MelonPreferences entry - Fixed the version sync script pointing at a stale path, and made it fail
loudly on missing files
