This release improves the full-window controls layout and refreshes the project documentation.

Improvements

  • The full controls list now uses a regular stack so that all control sections are initialized together
  • Simplified the full-window controls layout
  • Clarified installation, camera support, settings persistence, privacy, and security documentation
  • Updated the project screenshot and roadmap

Requirements

  • macOS 26 Tahoe or later
  • Apple Silicon Mac
  • UVC-compatible USB webcam for hardware controls

Built-in, Continuity, and virtual cameras can be displayed even when they do not expose UVC hardware controls.

Warning

This release expands camera compatibility and substantially improves the
preview and full-window experience.

New

  • Support for built-in MacBook cameras and Continuity Camera (but no setting changes possible)
  • Resizable split layout for camera preview and controls
  • Shared preview session between the main window and menu bar
  • Presets now preserve supported automatic-mode values

Improvements

  • Improved camera discovery and selection
  • Improved preview lifecycle and session handling
  • Better layout behavior on larger screens
  • Improved settings pane sizing
  • Correct slider snapping for controls with non-zero minimum values
  • Fixed memory leak and high CPU usage

The first public preview release of MacWebcamController — a lightweight, native macOS menu bar app for controlling UVC-compatible USB webcams.

Warning

Do not use this version, it includes a memory and cpu leak, where over 100% of cpu gets used and memory usage is fast increasing. This can use up more than 16gb of ram.

Requirements

  • macOS 26 Tahoe or later on a Apple Silicon Mac
  • UVC-compatible USB webcam

Installation

  1. Download MacWebcamController-0.1.0.zip.
  2. Extract the archive.
  3. Move MacWebcamController.app to your Applications folder.
  4. Launch MacWebcamController.

Warning

This preview build is not signed or notarized by Apple. macOS may block it on first launch. If this happens, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and select Open Anyway for MacWebcamController.
