Installation Instructions
## Before Class
Follow our setup instructions to install Docker Desktop, WSL with Ubuntu, and Visual Studio Code. Turn on WSL integration for Ubuntu in Docker Desktop, then run the hello-world test from the instructions to make sure it works.
Please get this done before class so we have time to go through the lesson and lab together. If you run into problems, let us know before class so we can help.
*Make sure 'Use WSL 2 instead of Hyper-V' is checked
Open PowerShell as admin - right click start button then click terminal(admin) enter the command:
wsl --install
Windows subsystem for Linux and ubuntu will both be downloaded and installed, you may have to follow some prompts to complete the installation.
Restart your computer
When Ubuntu opens, follow the prompts to create a Linux username and password. You won’t see any characters while typing your password. That’s normal—type it and press Enter, then type it again to confirm. Remember this password because you may need it when running commands with sudo.
- Open Docker Desktop and go to settings, should be upper right hand corner
- Go to resources and select WSL integration
- Toggle switch to enable integration for Ubuntu
- Apply & restart
You will now be able to use the Docker inside Linux.
Go to your start menu, find and click on ubuntu, which will open the Linux CLI
To confirm Docker is running correctly go to your terminal and run:
docker run hello-world
if the container doesn't run try:
sudo docker run hello-world
you will then be prompted for the password you made for your Linux login.

Make sure you have vscode installed:
