Advanced Network Scanner v0.5.3
Advanced Network Scanner v0.5.3
A focused fix-and-polish release on top of 0.5.2, verified end-to-end. Backward
compatible (/ws, CLI, existing options unchanged).
Fixed in v0.5.3
- Window can be made small (portrait) again — the scanner window now restores from maximized into the compact portrait layout via the □ button and has a real resize handle.
- Scan results render again — the search filter is hardened against browser autofill that could silently hide every host;
renderRows()is now defensive so results can never vanish. - Terminal works when enabled —
deploy_ans_v3.shnow forwardsANS_ENABLE_PTY(default1),ANS_PTY_SHELL, andANS_AUTH_TOKENinto the container.
Topology in v0.5.3
- Segmented star networks:
Internet → Core (firewall/main router) → one switch per /24 → hosts, with routers/firewalls/switches as their own nodes. - Device symbols (firewall, router, switch, server, PC, printer, NAS, camera, IoT, host) in a network-diagram style, plus an Internet/WAN cloud.
- If the topology isn’t clear from the scan, the assumption “each subnet on its own switch” applies; segment gateways stay visible.
- Layout toggle (Segmentiert ↔ Stern) in the topology window; Mermaid export uses per-subnet subgraphs.
Quality
- Inline SVG favicon (no
404 /favicon.ico); workspace is Clippy-clean under-D warnings; 24 unit tests green; three-bug end-to-end Playwright verification.
Security:
/ptyis a real remote shell — enable only in trusted, authorized environments
(ANS_ENABLE_PTY=1, ideally withANS_AUTH_TOKEN).
Advanced Network Scanner v0.5.2
A large release across two themes — network depth and a real multitasking desktop —
integrated seamlessly and verified end-to-end. Backward compatible (/ws, CLI, existing
options unchanged; new scan options are opt-in).
New in v0.5.2
- Discovery: opt-in mDNS (5353), LLMNR (5355), SSDP/UPnP (1900) per-host probes.
- Device-type detection: router / printer / NAS / media / IoT / camera / DB / Windows / Linux / web, shown as a badge and in host details.
- Banner/version grabbing and passive weak-protocol audit flags; security report (HTML) export.
- Discovery-only switch (skip the TCP port scan) and a status-bar progress bar.
- Network-topology drawer (live SVG) with Mermaid export.
- Multitasking desktop: window manager with a taskbar + Start/App launcher, movable/resizable windows, switching, minimize/maximize/close.
- Real server-side PTY terminal (
/pty, opt-in viaANS_ENABLE_PTY=1) — a genuine shell with real network IO, streamed to xterm.js. - Embedded service browser (sandboxed iframe) and a Notes window.
- German / English UI language switch.
Security:
/ptyis a real remote shell — disabled by default; enable only in trusted,
authorized environments (ANS_ENABLE_PTY=1, ideally withANS_AUTH_TOKEN).
Deferred to v0.5.3 (kept out to stay fully tested): raw-socket L2 ARP sweep, TLS-certificate
inspection, table virtualization, full IPv6 sweep.
Advanced Network Scanner v0.4.8
This release adds seven feature areas requested for parity with the classic Advanced IP
Scanner, integrated seamlessly and verified end-to-end. The scanner engine and the /ws
protocol remain backward compatible.
New in v0.4.8
- Column sorting — click any header (Status, Name, IP, NetBIOS group, manufacturer, MAC, detected) to sort; click again to reverse. IP is numeric, text is natural-ordered.
- Logged-in user & system time — the two former "(geplant)" resource options are now real: user via NetBIOS
<03>, time via SNTP (UDP 123, UTC). Opt-in; shown in host details. - Advanced Port Setup tab — scan explicit ports and ranges (
22,80,443, 8000-8100), coupled to the backend; open ports appear on expand with their service label. - Working favorites + cache — the Favoriten tab filters to favorites, the star toggle persists across restarts, and "Gespeicherte Daten löschen" clears favorites, aliases, comments, and IP history.
- IP-range history — entered targets are remembered and offered as a dropdown under the input.
- Static accordion layout — action buttons align under the IP column, services under the Name column, independent of text length.
- Virtual window controls — minimize / restore / close over a self-contained Win11-style desktop with taskbar and desktop icon.
New in v0.4.7
- Working Pause/Resume for running scans (
pause/resumeWebSocket command + shared pause flag; in-flight probes finish, no new probes start while paused). - Alle erweitern / Alle reduzieren toolbar buttons after the
Cpreset, plusStrg + Num +/−shortcuts. - Functional classic menu bar: Datei (Speichern als … CSV, Beenden), Nur Ansicht (Alle erweitern/reduzieren, Hell/Dunkel), Einstellungen (Optionen …), Hilfe (Projekt auf GitHub …, Info …).
- Info dialog styled like the classic "Infos über" box, linking to
https://github.com/Centaurus-X/advanced_network_scanner. - Compact in-place accordion for host details (reduced left indent and padding).
- Removed the redundant inline computer icon from the Name column (status icon kept).
Highlights (carried over from v0.4.6)
- CLI-first Rust LAN scanner prototype.
- Optional Axum WebSocket server and standalone browser UI.
- TCP scanning, ping, NetBIOS Node Status, reverse DNS, ARP/neighbor-cache lookup, OUI vendor hints, JSON/CSV/table output, Wake-on-LAN, SMB and URL helpers.
- Web UI with dark/light mode, scan start/stop, options modal, context menu, host details, and embedded terminal diagnostics.
- Docker targets for CLI and server.
- Screenshots and Mermaid diagrams integrated into README.
- MIT license, security policy, contributing guide, and code of conduct.
Known limitations
- No authentication or authorization for the Web UI or WebSocket endpoints yet.
- No built-in TLS.
- Docker Desktop on Windows/macOS cannot fully replace native LAN discovery.
/termis allowlist-based, but remains an administrative diagnostic endpoint.
