Stream GUI RS 1.0.0

Use Stream GUI RS in English, German, Spanish or French, and reach channels and bookmarks with two more configurable shortcuts.

Highlights

Interface languages

Choose System, English, Deutsch, Español or Français in Settings → Appearance → Language. System follows a supported operating-system language and falls back to English otherwise. The choice is saved, and changing it updates the current interface, including visible feedback and errors. The four catalogs are bundled; no translation download is needed. Native tray, notification and macOS About labels use the selected language. Twitch's separate Stream language filter still controls discovery results.

The interface also formats visible counts and dates for the selected language and translates accessible names and status messages. Translation contributors can review wording and report corrections.

Channel and bookmark shortcuts

Open channel and Bookmarks join the configurable application shortcuts. Their defaults are Ctrl+5 and Ctrl+6 on Linux and Windows, or Command+5 and Command+6 on macOS. Existing complete shortcut maps gain the two actions without replacing custom bindings; a default that conflicts with a saved binding remains unassigned. Shortcuts work while the app has focus and pause in editable fields and dialogs.

Fixes and maintenance

  • Twitch discovery accepts otherwise usable Helix responses when unused stream metadata is absent or malformed (#25).
  • The development dependencies Vite and jsdom were updated (#24, #23). Deferred native dependency migrations are documented in the roadmap (#22).

The interface languages were introduced in #26, and the new shortcuts in #27.

Upgrade and platform support

Upgrade over 0.5.0 without signing out or clearing settings. Settings schema 7 migrates to schema 8 in memory, preserving playback, channel, discovery, profile, appearance, monitoring and shortcut preferences. Interface language starts at System. The two new shortcut defaults are added when free; existing custom bindings remain. Migration is written on the next settings save, after which downgrading to 0.5.0 is unsupported. Native credential-store identity is unchanged.

Packages remain Windows 11 x86_64 installer and portable/Scoop ZIP; Linux x86_64 AppImage, DEB and RPM; and a universal macOS DMG for Apple Silicon and Intel requiring macOS 11.0 or later. Verify downloads against the accompanying SHA-256 files. Streamlink 8.0+ and a separate player remain required.

Windows packages are unsigned. macOS bundles have an ad-hoc signature but no Developer ID signature or notarization, so platform warnings may appear. Native Intel execution requires separate verification from the universal binary's architecture.

See the README for installation requirements and current feature details.

Stream GUI RS 0.5.0

Find Twitch Teams, keep local bookmarks, tailor discovery and move around the app more quickly.

Highlights

Teams

Browse a Twitch team by its exact name, open a member's channel and use the existing Watch flow. Team membership does not imply that a member is live.

Bookmarks and hides

Bookmark channels and categories locally, independently of Twitch follows. Hide unwanted channels and categories from passive discovery. Hidden items remain available through Following, Search, Teams, bookmarks, exact lookup and direct links; hiding never blocks an explicit visit.

Navigation and shortcuts

Home, Back and Forward retain bounded search, scroll and focus history. Configure application-local shortcuts, detect conflicts, unassign actions or reset defaults. Modifier labels follow the platform; shortcuts are not system-wide hotkeys.

Application links

Installed packages support these navigation links:

stream-gui-rs://show
stream-gui-rs://channel/<login>
stream-gui-rs://category/<id>
stream-gui-rs://team/<name>

Links are strictly validated and never start playback. They activate a running app or deliver the latest pending destination after a cold start. Linux and Windows forward to the existing instance; macOS uses installed-bundle activation.

Platform support and upgrade

Packages: Windows 11 x86_64 NSIS installer and portable/Scoop ZIP; Linux x86_64 AppImage, DEB and RPM; universal macOS DMG for Apple Silicon and Intel, requiring macOS 11.0 or later. Verify downloads against the accompanying SHA-256 files.

Upgrade over 0.4.0 without signing out or clearing settings. Settings schema 6 migrates to schema 7 in memory, preserving playback and channel preferences, profiles, Chatterino, appearance, monitoring and background behavior. Bookmarks and hide lists start empty; shortcuts receive platform defaults. The native credential-store identity is unchanged. Migration is written when settings are next saved; downgrading after that save is unsupported.

Streamlink 8.0+ and a separate player remain required. The application links provide navigation, not a separate command-line interface or playback commands.

Known limitations

Windows packages are unsigned. macOS bundles have an ad-hoc signature but no Developer ID signature or notarization, so platform warnings may appear. Native Intel execution remains to be verified separately from the universal binary's architecture. There is no embedded playback, automatic updater or global shortcut service.

See the README for prerequisites and installation details.

Stream GUI RS 0.4.0

Check for releases, open Twitch chat in Chatterino and switch between saved player configurations.

Highlights

Update awareness

  • Check for stable releases manually in Settings → Updates. Versions are compared correctly, and a newer development build is never offered an older version as an upgrade.
  • See Checking for updates… immediately, refresh a previous result and open the verified official GitHub release page in your browser.
  • Checks are independent of Twitch sign-in. Nothing is downloaded or installed automatically, and no update checks run in the background.

Chatterino

  • Choose Chatterino as your external chat application, with automatic discovery or an explicit executable path. Browser chat remains available from channel details.
  • Linux discovery also supports the official Chatterino Flatpak, com.chatterino.chatterino.
  • Chatterino signs in independently; Stream GUI RS never forwards its Twitch credentials.
  • Each channel request may open another Chatterino window/process, including when it is already running. Stream GUI RS does not attempt private IPC or process reuse. Chatterino stays open after Stop or Quit.

Player profiles

  • Save up to 16 named player configurations with stable identities, using the existing player modes, executable paths and literal argument controls. Profiles can also set quality and low-latency preferences.
  • Playback uses global defaults, then the selected profile, channel overrides and finally any quality chosen for that launch.
  • Switching, editing or deleting a profile leaves running playback unchanged. Restart applies current preferences; deleting the selected profile returns future launches to Default.
  • Keyboard save/focus, update progress and chat error messages make these controls easier to use.

Platform support and upgrade

Packages: Windows 11 x86_64 NSIS installer and portable/Scoop ZIP; Linux x86_64 AppImage, DEB and RPM; universal macOS DMG for Apple Silicon and Intel, requiring macOS 11.0 or later. Verify downloads against the accompanying SHA-256 files.

Streamlink 8.0+ and an external player remain separate requirements. Chatterino is optional and must be installed and configured separately. Windows requires WebView2; Linux requires the documented GTK/WebKitGTK dependencies, a user D-Bus session and unlocked Secret Service; macOS uses system WebKit and Keychain. Packaged builds include the public Twitch client ID.

Upgrade over 0.3.0 without signing out or clearing settings. Schema 5 preferences migrate to schema 6 while preserving player settings, channel overrides, notifications/background behavior, language, low latency, text size and automatic chat. Existing native credentials keep the same storage identity. Browser chat remains the default, with no profiles selected or created. Update checks have no persisted preference and start unchecked.

Migration remains in memory until settings are saved. Downgrading to 0.3.0 after saving schema 6 is unsupported. Older settings schemas 1–4 remain supported for upgrade.

Validation

Phase 7 native acceptance passed on Linux, macOS and Windows, including Chatterino from Flathub, Homebrew and WinGet respectively. Hosted desktop checks and CodeQL passed for the completed Phase 7 implementation. The release procedure additionally validates the versioned candidate and promotes its tested files without rebuilding.

Known limitations

  • Windows packages are unsigned. macOS bundles have a complete ad-hoc signature, without Developer ID signing or notarization; platform warnings may appear.
  • Tray and notification integration depends on the desktop. Explicit Quit stops monitoring and owned playback; intentionally detached players can escape normal cleanup.
  • Low latency is a playback preference, not a measured or guaranteed delay reduction. Native screen-reader and high-DPI coverage is not exhaustive.
  • No embedded playback/chat, automatic updater, alternate transports or localization is included.

See the README for prerequisites and installation details.

Stream GUI RS 0.3.0

Better discovery, optional low-latency viewing, accessible controls and safer troubleshooting.

Highlights

  • Filter Live and category streams by language; Following stays unfiltered.
  • Open an exact Twitch channel by login, including offline channels, without starting playback.
  • Enable low-latency Streamlink playback globally or per channel. Changes apply on a new launch or Restart; running streams keep their current settings.
  • Scale application text to 100%, 125% or 150%, with improved wrapping, keyboard focus and live/offline/unknown state descriptions.
  • Preview and manually copy a support report containing only build/platform metadata, validated version information and anonymous process summaries. No paths, account/channel identities, arguments or raw logs are included.
  • Open About from the main interface or tray/status menu on every platform: native AppKit on macOS, an application dialog on Linux/Windows, with matching version/commit and a fixed repository link.
  • Preferences remain consistent across overlapping saves and reopened settings panels. Native navigation reveals its destination when a dialog was open.
  • Long channel lists keep the header, navigation and About footer in place while results scroll.
  • The native macOS About panel shows a labeled repository hyperlink.

Installation and upgrade

Packages: Windows 11 x86_64 installer and portable/Scoop ZIP; Linux x86_64 AppImage, DEB and RPM; universal macOS DMG with Apple Silicon and Intel slices. Verify downloads against the accompanying SHA-256 files.

Streamlink 8.0+ and an external player remain separate requirements. Windows requires WebView2. Linux requires GTK/WebKitGTK dependencies, a user D-Bus session and unlocked Secret Service. macOS requires 11.0 or later, system WebKit and Keychain. Packaged builds include the public Twitch client ID; users need no environment variables or client secret.

Upgrade over 0.2.0 without clearing settings or signing out. Existing native credentials and playback paths/arguments, quality, chat, theme, channel overrides, monitoring, notifications and background behavior are preserved. New preferences default to Any language, low latency Off, per-channel low latency Inherit and 100% text size. Migration remains in memory until a settings save writes schema 5; downgrading to 0.2.0 after that save is unsupported. Older settings versions 1–3 remain supported for upgrade.

Known limitations

  • Low latency is a Streamlink preference, not a measured or guaranteed latency reduction. It does not replace the external player.
  • Language filtering applies to Live/category discovery, not Following or search. Exact lookup accepts a Twitch login, not a URL.
  • Linux tray/notification actions depend on the desktop; missing tray support falls back to minimizing. Windows notification activation uses the installed identity and an active original session; portable integration may be unavailable. Monitoring stops at explicit Quit.
  • Windows packages are unsigned. macOS bundles are ad-hoc signed, without Developer ID signing or notarization; SmartScreen/Gatekeeper warnings remain possible.
  • A deliberately detached player can escape normal owned-process cleanup.
  • No embedded playback/chat, alternate Streamlink transports, automatic updater or localization is included. Accessibility improvements are not formal screen-reader certification.

See the README for prerequisites and platform installation details.

Stream GUI RS 0.2.0

Stream GUI RS 0.2.0

Stream GUI RS can now stay in the background and notify you when followed Twitch channels go live.

Highlights

  • Opt-in followed-channel monitoring and native desktop live notifications.
  • Click a notification to restore the application and open the channel without starting playback.
  • Tray/menu-bar controls, Pause/Resume, and optional close-to-background while streams keep playing.
  • Per-channel notification preferences alongside existing playback and browser-chat settings.
  • Quiet initial scans and recovery after sleep or network interruptions, with deduplication and priority for browsing.
  • Build commit information in diagnostics and the native macOS About panel, plus a clickable repository link.
  • Compact Linux Wayland title-bar controls and corrected input routing.
  • Windows Notification Center activation after banner timeout and complete macOS bundle signing for notification permission.

Twitch browsing/search, Streamlink playback, mpv/VLC/custom players, multiple sessions, quality policies, per-channel settings, browser chat, themes and keyboard shortcuts remain available.

Installation and upgrade

Packages: Windows 11 x86_64 installer and portable/Scoop ZIP; Linux x86_64 AppImage, Debian and RPM packages; universal macOS DMG with Apple Silicon and Intel slices. Verify downloads against the accompanying SHA-256 files.

Install Streamlink 8.0+ and an external player separately. Windows needs WebView2; Linux needs GTK/WebKitGTK dependencies, a user D-Bus session and an unlocked Secret Service provider. macOS requires version 11.0 or newer, with system WebKit and Keychain. Installed builds include the public Twitch client ID; no environment setup or client secret is needed.

Upgrades preserve existing playback, chat, theme and channel preferences and retain the same native credential identity. Monitoring, notifications and close-to-background start disabled. Enable them in Settings → Background and grant native notification permission where required. The first scan is quiet. Settings saved by 0.2.0 use schema 4, which 0.1.0 cannot read.

With background close enabled, closing hides the window if a tray is available or minimizes it otherwise. Quit in the main interface or tray/menu bar always ends monitoring and stops owned playback. On macOS, Command-Q also quits.

Known limitations

  • Linux notification actions and tray support depend on the desktop environment; missing tray support falls back to minimize.
  • Windows notifications are intended for the installed Start-menu identity. Retained entries expire after 15 minutes and require the app and original monitoring/sign-in session to remain active. Pause, logout and Quit retire them; clicks cannot relaunch a fully quit app. Portable notification integration can be unavailable.
  • Windows packages are unsigned. macOS bundles are ad-hoc signed, without Developer ID signing or notarization. SmartScreen/Gatekeeper warnings remain possible.
  • Monitoring stops when the app quits. No missed-transition replay, embedded player/chat, advanced Streamlink transports, updater or legacy configuration import is included.
  • A player that deliberately detaches from its owned process tree is outside normal cleanup guarantees.

See the README for runtime prerequisites and platform-specific installation details.

  • Linux x86_64: AppImage, Debian amd64 package, and RPM x86_64 package
  • macOS arm64 and x86_64: universal disk image containing the app

ARM Linux/Windows packages are deferred. The Windows packages are unsigned and may trigger SmartScreen. The macOS app has no Developer ID signature or notarization and may be blocked by Gatekeeper on first launch. Apple Silicon has been natively validated; the exact universal artifact still requires native Intel validation.

After publication, the Windows portable build is available through the ChrisLauinger77 Scoop bucket, and the universal macOS build is available through the ChrisLauinger77 Homebrew tap.

Requirements

Install Streamlink 8.0 or newer and a Streamlink-compatible external player. mpv and VLC have built-in discovery. Linux authentication also requires a working Secret Service provider in the desktop session.

Known limitations

  • No background followed-stream monitoring, notifications, or tray mode
  • No embedded player or chat client
  • No advanced Streamlink transports or player-profile system
  • No updater or legacy configuration import
  • Intentionally detached custom players cannot be stopped by application process-tree cleanup

Acknowledgements

Playback is provided by Streamlink. Stream GUI RS is an independent rewrite inspired by Streamlink Twitch GUI. Thanks to the Rust, Tauri, React, and other open-source projects used by this application.
