Distillery

Distillery

The Distillery turns a fully-fermented wash into a stronger, distilled spirit, pushing the result straight into a container placed next to it - usually a Flask, a simple tank block with no processing of its own.

Craft one with 2 Iron Ingots and 1 Flask.

Mechanics

Only a fully-fermented wash can be distilled, and only if it hasn't been matured yet - matches the Distilling column on the Vat's Fluid Crafting table. Distilling has to happen before maturing, not after, though a distilled result can still be matured afterwards.

The Distillery needs a valid container in the one direction it's facing, indicated by the spout - that container needs to be either empty, or already holding the exact same fluid the Distillery's about to produce, with room for the whole batch. A Flask works for this, but so does a Vat, Barrel, or another Distillery. If there's nothing valid there, it just idles rather than getting stuck or wasting the batch.

Hovering over the progress icon shows how far along it is, same as everywhere else:

The whole tank converts at once rather than gradually - once the timer's up, part of it leaves as the distilled result (into the container next door), and the rest turns into Slurry Hardening Slurry, which stays behind in the Distillery's own tank.

Distilling Multiple Times

Each pass through a Distillery keeps a bigger share of the batch than the last one did:

Pass % kept as distillate
1st 50%
2nd 75%
3rd ~83%
4th 87.5%

It keeps climbing towards 100% with more passes, but never quite gets there. Distilled alcohol also gets stronger with every pass, so running the output back through a Distillery again - filling it back in through the fluid slot - both raises the yield and increases the strength each time.

Slurry

Slurry is the leftover byproduct of every distillation pass. It stays behind in the Distillery's own tank rather than going to the output container, so it needs draining out (through the fluid slot) before a fresh batch can go in. Left to sit in a Vat, it slowly hardens into Dirt - see the Vat page's Slurry Hardening section for the details.

Flask

The Flask is just a plain 8000mb fluid tank - it doesn't process anything, it's there to hold or move fluid around. It's most useful sitting next to a Distillery, either feeding it wash or catching the distilled result, but works as general fluid storage too.

It's filled and drained the same way as everything else - a Fill/Drain toggle button and a slot for a bucket or any other fluid container:
