Ambient 0.7.0 — public preview

Ambient's first public preview brings native live wallpapers and movable desktop widgets to macOS 14+ on Apple silicon.

• Original-quality video playback, images, GIFs, local web wallpapers, and experimental Wallpaper Engine scene support.
• Independent clock, date, CPU, RAM and network widgets, with 500 ms system sampling and desktop drag editing.
• Custom offline HTML/CSS widgets with local JSON import/export.
• Menu-bar operation, optional launch at login, and playback recovery.
• Formatted Swift source, MIT licensing for original contributions, contribution guidance, and automated macOS checks.

Download the DMG below, open Animated Setup, and choose an installation folder. Setup does not overwrite an existing installation. The companion .sha256 file lets you verify the download with shasum -a 256 -c Ambient-0.7.0-apple-silicon.dmg.sha256 from the download directory.

Signing: Ambient and Animated Setup are ad-hoc signed and their signatures were verified inside the finished DMG. This preview is not Developer ID signed or notarized; macOS may block a quarantined download. See distribution guidance. No Apple-trusted signing is claimed.

Compatibility and provenance: general Wallpaper Engine shaders, particles, Windows applications, and audio reactivity are unsupported. The included water-flow port has unresolved third-party redistribution rights, documented in third-party notices. No downloaded wallpaper media is bundled. A hosted widget library is planned; this release supports local exchange.

Local validation: 36 tests completed with zero failures and two optional media-fixture tests skipped; Swift formatting, release packaging, DMG integrity, embedded app signatures, and download checksum passed. Apple Developer ID signing and notarization have not been exercised.
