Cristalis 1.10 (beta): Crystal Defenders Recomp, an unofficial native PC port of Crystal Defenders
(Xbox 360, Xbox Live Arcade) by static recompilation.

New in 1.10:

  • Lighter at high resolutions: on Windows the picture now goes to DarkLauncher on the graphics card,
without a copy through the processor. At 4K the game takes about 17 % less processor time, as little
    as at 720p.
  • Linux on a real PC: a whole game was played under Bazzite (a Linux close to SteamOS), in Steam's
Game Mode with the new Steam Controller, with no problem seen. DarkLauncher 2.41 brings Linux and
Game Mode fixes (Steam's virtual keyboard no longer opens at start).
  • Installer: installs into a "Cristalis" folder, with shortcuts named "Cristalis – Crystal
Defenders". An installed copy stays where it is, and updates itself as before.

A 1.07, 1.08 or 1.09 offers this version by itself: start your game, and choose "Update" in Settings,
Internet.

Since 1.07: your saves are in the game's saves folder, and the launcher tells you when a newer
version is out and installs it when you choose "Update" (it checks the file's size and SHA-256
against GitHub's first; your saves, screenshots, settings and game data are kept). The look is one
request to GitHub at each start; turn it off in Settings, Internet. Copies before 1.07 cannot update
themselves: install this one by hand once.

You need your own copy of the game: the CRYSTAL DEFENDERS (or 58410989) folder from your
console. These programs contain no game assets (pictures, sounds, music, texts): they are read
from your copy, which is checked on installation. Crystal Defenders belongs to Square Enix; this
project is not affiliated with or endorsed by Square Enix.

Downloads

  • Windows 10/11, 64-bit: Cristalis-Setup.exe. Put your CRYSTAL DEFENDERS folder next to it
and run it. Already installed? Run it again: it installs over your copy and keeps your things.
  • Linux x86-64 (experimental): Cristalis-linux-x86_64.tar.gz. Unpack it, copy your folder into
    it, run crystal_defenders.sh.
Played on one real PC so far (Bazzite, Steam's Game Mode); not yet tried on a Steam Deck.

Download them only from this page.

What it has

  • The game on DarkLauncher 2.41 (open source, MIT): settings screen, pause menu, seven languages,
keyboard, Xbox and PlayStation 4/5 controllers with vibration, achievements, screenshots,
    accessibility options, updates.
  • The game's six languages; internal resolution up to 3840 × 2160; HDR (Windows).
  • A crash report that says where the game was ("W1, Stage 2, Wave 5").

It is a beta: played by few people so far; few controllers and Linux PCs, and no Steam Deck,
have tried it yet. Everything else: README,
CHANGELOG.
