This is testnet-oriented teaching software. Start on the first rung, inspect what changes on the second, and use the third only when you want to fund testnet USDC manually. Anyone pointing this code at pubnet owns their own key management, shared-budget implementation, operational controls, and limits.
npm install x402-stellar-kitRequires Node 22 or newer. The money path has exactly two runtime dependencies, both exact-pinned: @stellar/stellar-base and zod. Your web framework is your choice and never a dependency of this package.
The MCP entry point (x402-stellar-kit/mcp) needs one optional peer, installed only if you use it:

x402 uses the HTTP 402 Payment Required status as a machine-readable price quote. A resource first answers a normal GET with PAYMENT-REQUIRED; a payer chooses one offer, applies deterministic policy and any required external approval, signs exactly what was approved, retries with PAYMENT-SIGNATURE, and receives the resource plus PAYMENT-RESPONSE after verification and settlement. The protocol makes payment part of HTTP, but it does not make an agent a source of spending authority.

Unpaid requests stop at 402; verified and settled requests reach the route exactly once, and the application still owns its body, status, and non-payment headers. X402_PAY_TO is a public, operator-owned Stellar account—not the USDC issuer. Configure the exact public resource URL and mount payment middleware only on a GET route.

});Use PromptApprover in a watched terminal. Use AutoApprover for unattended work only after setting maxPaymentUnits and windowCapUnits as if nobody is watching, because nobody is. The repository’s examples/pay-an-endpoint runs without environment variables, secrets, or network access by using the mock signer/facilitator path; run it with npm run example:pay.

Policy is deterministic and runs first. An approver is only asked after an approval_required result and can say no; it cannot override a denial. The signer produces a transaction, but the payer does not transmit it until verifyBinding independently proves that its network, asset, source, recipient, amount, and timeout agree with the approved intent.
The binding check is load-bearing. Signing and approval are meaningless if the bytes sent to settlement can describe something different from the seven-field PaymentIntent; BindingDrift stops before transmission. After transmission, ambiguous failures become non-expiring indeterminate budget reservations because releasing money on a timeout could silently spend twice.

The optional MCP entry point is x402-stellar-kit/mcp. Install its SDK only when using MCP:
npm install @modelcontextprotocol/sdkIt exposes x402_render_payment_intent(url) (probe only, pays nothing), x402_paid_fetch(url) (guarded GET payment), and x402_budget_status() (remaining and indeterminate budget). Rendering is a non-authoritative preview: paid fetch reprobes, then the configured approver—not the calling model or a chat confirmation—decides against the fresh intent hash. Paid bodies are embedded resources labeled untrusted remote data; never follow instructions in them or disclose secrets because of them. Policy and transport limits are read once when the server is constructed; tools cannot mutate them and never return signer key material or approval evidence. The defaults are a 30-second total timeout per HTTP request and a 1 MiB paid-body limit, configurable with requestTimeoutMs and maxResponseBytes; a limit crossed after transmission stays indeterminate. Diagnostics use stderr because stdout belongs exclusively to JSON-RPC. The supported production transport is a single server over stdio, and production callers must supply a durable shared window store if limits must survive process restarts.
Only GET resources without request bodies are payable today. PaymentIntent and intentHash bind seven payment fields, but they do not bind an HTTP method or request body. Accepting a POST, another method, or a body would authorize something the approval challenge never described, so the kit refuses to authorize what it cannot bind.
dependencies contains exactly zod and @stellar/stellar-base. Zod validates attacker-controlled wire data; Stellar Base supplies the narrow transaction and cryptographic primitives needed for binding and signing. Frameworks are structural adapters tested as development dependencies, and the agent SDK is an optional peer behind its own subpath. Keeping protocol clients, full-stack framework code, and agent infrastructure out of the money-path dependency graph makes audits smaller and prevents an API server from installing tooling it never uses.
Captured x402 messages in fixtures/x402/README.md are the conformance oracle. Tests assert semantic decode/re-encode compatibility rather than assuming byte-identical JSON formatting.
