Release list
Brand Navigation v1.0.0-rc.1
Brand Navigation v1.0.0-rc.1 is the first stable-track release candidate.
Highlights
- Uses Discourse's native component-level Enabled? control as the single activation switch.
- Provides an enabled, non-public staging-theme workflow for configuration and bundle imports.
- Prevents stale asynchronous bundle reads from replacing newer administrator input.
- Keeps linked-parent submenu children in normal mobile-menu flow.
- Adopts Discourse's
d-compat/<YYYY>.<M>compatibility-branch convention. - Includes reviewed current, 2026.8, and two known 2026.7 CI lanes.
Upgrade note
The duplicate Brand Navigation Enabled setting has been removed. Use Discourse's native component Enabled? control. Existing navigation and appearance settings remain in the component record. For unpublished preparation or configuration-bundle import, attach the enabled component only to a non-default staging theme and work through that theme's preview before attaching it to a visitor-facing theme.
Compatibility and updates
Normal Discourse update checks continue to follow main on current Discourse or the applicable d-compat/<YYYY>.<M> branch on maintained older releases. This tag is an immutable release and rollback identity.
RC limitations
- Full pin-and-return rollback remains provisional until its complete staging exercise is recorded.
- Complete human screen-reader and RTL acceptance is not claimed.
- Dense mobile core-header icon configurations remain operator-managed; use device visibility to reserve narrow-screen space for priority icons.
See the changelog, administrator guide, migration and rollback guide, and testing record.
Brand Navigation v0.9.0
Brand Navigation v0.9.0 is the first reviewed preview release of a brand header and submenu navigation theme component for Discourse.
Highlights
- Optional brand identity with configurable name, logos, destination, and presentation.
- Primary links and accessible one-level dropdown navigation with linked or group-only parents.
- Left/right navigation sections, bar or core-header icon placement, audience and device visibility, and intentional mobile behavior.
- Administrator color controls with Discourse palette inheritance.
- Browser-based configuration bundle import/export for migration and repeatable setup.
- Supported full-app embed exclusion at the component render and connector boundaries.
- Safe external-link handling, accessible icon fallbacks, keyboard submenu behavior, and delayed SVG-sprite recovery.
Compatibility
The release candidate passed lint, configuration tests, backend checks, 23 frontend tests, and 30 system examples against current Discourse and two exact Discourse 2026.7 core revisions. It was also updated and manually accepted on the DiscussionBridge sandbox with no component errors.
Upgrade
Installations tracking the repository's main branch use Discourse's normal Check for updates and Update workflow. Existing settings are retained during a normal remote-theme update. See Updates and upgrades.
Migration
Use Brand Navigation's administrator-facing configuration bundle controls to export, validate, and import settings between installations. Practical migration guidance for Brand Header, Header Submenus, Dropdown Header, and Custom Header Links (icons) is documented in the migration guide.
Rollback
Export the current configuration before changes. Administrators can disable Brand Navigation, restore comparison components, or pin the remote theme to this tag or another known commit. See Disable or roll back and the migration rollback notes.
Preview status
v0.9.x is the reviewed preview series. Classic-embed manual execution, full RTL-locale inspection, screen-reader acceptance, and the two documented CI reproducibility improvements remain planned before v1.0.0.
