Gesto for Apple Silicon Macs

Download Gesto-v0.1.0-macos-arm64.zip, unzip it, then move Gesto.app to Applications.

First launch

This is an unsigned beta. The first time you try to open Gesto, macOS will show a warning that Apple cannot verify it. Dismiss that warning. Then open System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, click Open Anyway beside the Gesto message, and confirm Open.

Set permissions before use

Open System Settings > Privacy & Security and give Gesto these permissions before relying on its actions:

  • Accessibility: required for media play or pause, browser tab switching, and locking the screen. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility, click +, authenticate, select Gesto.app from Applications, then turn on its toggle. If macOS lists Swift separately, enable it too.
  • Screen Recording: required for the take-screenshot action. Open Screen Recording, click +, authenticate, select Gesto.app from Applications, and turn on its toggle. If Gesto is not listed, use the + button to add it manually.
  • Camera: launch Gesto and click Start Detection once. macOS will then show the Camera prompt. Choose Allow. If you denied it, enable Gesto under Camera in System Settings.

Keep detection running

After selecting Start Detection, leave Gesto open for gesture controls to work. You can minimise the window or leave it open while you continue working, but do not close the app. When you want to stop using gestures, select Stop Detection and close Gesto, or simply close the app; closing it stops detection.
