Output and Logging Flags

These flags control terminal output and run log files for one invocation. They override ui settings from config files.

Output modes

Flag Config equivalent Behavior
(default) ui.output_mode = clean Progress lines; command output hidden on success
--verbose verbose Ninja-style: show command output
--error errors Errors only; no progress or success summary
--silent silent No terminal output; exit code only

Only one of --verbose, --error, and --silent may be used per run.

Clean mode (default)

  • Shows progress for tasks, steps, and workflows
  • Hides successful command stdout unless verbose
  • Shows stderr on failure
  • Shows step description in progress when set

Verbose mode

beez build --verbose

Prints shell command output as it runs.

Error-only mode

beez build --error

Suppresses progress and success summary. Errors still print.

Silent mode

beez build --silent

No stdout/stderr from Beez for the run. Useful in scripts that only care about exit code.

Fatal errors (missing build.lua, parse errors) may still be suppressed when --silent is set.

Run log files

Flag Effect
--log-file PATH Enable run log and write to PATH
--no-log-file Disable run log for this run

Defaults come from ui.logging in config (typically .cache/logs/latest.log).

beez build --log-file /tmp/beez-run.log
beez build --no-log-file

Worker log capture (ui.logging.workers) is config-only; there is no CLI flag yet.

Examples

beez ci --error
beez deploy --silent
