CodeKB: Turn Repositories into Grounded, Agent-Ready Knowledge
Alongside SOP Knowledge Bundles, KL4A now works with software repositories through CodeKB. It turns a repository into a portable, inspectable Code Knowledge Bundle that captures files, symbols, relationships, architecture signals, and task-ready context, so developers and agents can work from grounded code knowledge rather than raw repository text.
Use the new unified CLI to build, validate, query, and serve CodeKB bundles over stdio MCP:
kl4a --use codekb build <repository> --bundle <bundle_dir> --mining static
kl4a --use codekb context <bundle_dir> --task explain --query "authentication flow"
kl4a --use codekb mcp serve <bundle_dir>Highlights
Unified knowledge workflows
-
Build evidence-backed SOP Knowledge Bundles from policies, procedures, PDFs, DOCX, and Markdown.
-
Build Code Knowledge Bundles from software repositories for developer and agent workflows.
-
Select either workflow with the unified CLI:
kl4a --use sopkb <command> kl4a --use codekb <command>
CLI and MCP releases
- New
kl4abinary for the unified CLI, including CodeKB commands and its stdio MCP server. sopkb-cliremains available for SOPKB CLI compatibility.sopkb-mcpremains available for SOPKB MCP integrations.- Native binaries are available for Windows, macOS (universal), and Linux.
SOPKB desktop app
- SOPKB desktop builds are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- The desktop app supports the SOP workflow: create bundles, ingest sources, review knowledge, export, and use agent context.
Documentation and examples
- Expanded guides for SOPKB, CodeKB, CLI, and MCP usage.
- Added runnable SOP bundle examples for customer refund, customer support, and category returns policies.
- Updated download guidance for desktop, CLI, and MCP assets.

KL4A: Workbench (0.0.1-alpha)
KL4A turns SOPs, policies and regulatory documents into human-verified Open Knowledge Format (OKF) bundles. Every claim carries the byte range of the sentence it came from, and nothing is marked verified until a person has approved it.
Desktop app
Install it and everything happens in the app - creating a bundle, ingesting sources, reviewing mined claims, exporting, talking to the agent.
| Platform | File |
|---|---|
| Windows | KL4A.Workbench_0.0.1-alpha_x64-setup.exe |
| macOS | KL4A.Workbench_0.0.1-alpha_universal.dmg - universal, Apple Silicon and Intel |
| Linux | KL4A.Workbench_0.0.1-alpha_amd64.AppImage |
Not code-signed yet, so your OS will warn you on first launch: on macOS right-click then Open to get past Gatekeeper, on Windows click More info then Run anyway, and on Linux chmod +x the AppImage first.
Command line and MCP server
New in this release. Previously these could only be obtained by building the workspace from source.
| Binary | Windows | macOS | Linux |
|---|---|---|---|
sopkb-cli |
sopkb-cli-windows-x86_64.exe |
sopkb-cli-macos-universal |
sopkb-cli-linux-x86_64 |
sopkb-mcp |
sopkb-mcp-windows-x86_64.exe |
sopkb-mcp-macos-universal |
sopkb-mcp-linux-x86_64 |
sopkb-cli runs the whole pipeline: scan, normalize, mine, review, validate, export.
sopkb-mcp is a read-only stdio MCP server - 16 read tools and 1 gated write - that serves a bundle to any MCP-capable agent and hands it a grounding contract before it asks anything.
On macOS and Linux, chmod +x the binary and put it somewhere on your PATH so a client can resolve it by name:
claude mcp add kl4a -- sopkb-mcp /absolute/path/to/bundle
Or point your client's config at the binary directly:
{
"mcpServers": {
"kl4a": {
"command": "/absolute/path/to/sopkb-mcp",
"args": ["/absolute/path/to/bundle"]
}
}
}The macOS binaries are universal. The download links above always resolve to the newest release, so they do not need updating per version.
Notes
This is 0.0.1-alpha. Known gaps, stated plainly:
- PDF and DOCX are ingested and normalized on every surface, but the offline miner will not read a sentence broken across a line, and PDFs preserve the page's line wrapping - so on a typical PDF many sentences never reach it. Use the LLM miner for PDFs, or expect a thin bundle.
- The bundle profile is not yet a perfect drop-in for every OKF v0.2 field: a couple of generated-metadata field names still need aligning.
- Nothing is code-signed or notarized on any platform.
Issues and blunt feedback are genuinely useful, especially if you point it at your own documents and it falls over: https://github.com/CogniSwitch/KL4A/issues
