The first release of ReTzar, a fan remake of Tzar: The Burden of the Crown, rebuilt from scratch in Rust and Bevy and kept as close to the original as possible.

How to play

1. Download the zip under Assets below and unzip it somewhere of yours, such as the Desktop or Documents.
2. Run ReTzar.exe in the ReTzar folder.
3. The first time, choose the folder where Tzar is installed (GOG, Steam or CD, any language). ReTzar checks it and makes its game data from it in about a minute; after that it starts straight away.

Windows may say that it protected your PC, since the game isn't signed: click More info, then Run anyway.

What's in it

• All three civilizations, the original campaigns and missions, random maps
• The original AI, mission scripts, day and night, weather, fog of war
• Crisp scaling up to 4K and seven languages: English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese
• Optional modern extras (smooth zoom, night lights, glow of fire and magic, CRT effect…), all off by default

What you need

• Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and a graphics card with an up-to-date Vulkan driver
• Your own copy of Tzar: no game data is included
• About 350 MB of free disk space
