@Coldensjo Coldensjo released this 19 Oct 02:44

The second alpha of Meld, a 3D map editor for World of Warcraft 1.12.1. Expect bugs and rough edges, and keep backups of your client's Data folder and your server's database.

New

  • World › Flight Paths: edit a map's flight stops and routes on the map. Drag stops over the ground, and drag or draw route points in the air. A fly-along preview runs at a flight's 32 yd/s, and the curve turns red where it goes underground. Saving writes the client's three taxi tables plus the server's route tables and taxi_nodes.
  • Compile to Client, Compile to Server and Compile All take the place of File › Compile Region to Client. If the open region has ground, paint, model or water edits the client doesn't have yet, Launch now offers to compile them first.
  • Portals: right-click a drawn area trigger, or a spellcaster or goober portal spawn, to jump the view to its destination. The target map opens in a tab around that spot. A Select-tool left click selects an area trigger and keeps the Portals dialog in step.
  • Weather: rain now splashes on the ground, and the weather leads and tilts with the camera's motion. From inside a room you see it through the doorways, as in the client.
  • Session logs: each session's Log lines are written to a file in the user cache, and the last ten sessions are kept. Attach the log to bug reports.
  • Help › Benchmark maps: generated maps for measuring performance (objects, buildings, lights, creatures, terrain, water and a mix), in several sizes.

Fixed

  • The Walk camera stands on a WMO's floor and stops at its walls. It used to stand on the terrain, so under Stormwind the eye went into ceilings and walked through walls.
  • With Camera Collision on, the flying camera stays out of WMO walls, even at speed. Inside a WMO's rooms it keeps 3 yd above the floor, not above the terrain.
  • Rain streaks are no longer drawn upside down.
  • Growing a region refuses while edits are uncompiled or spawn edits are unsaved, and names the step to take. It used to drop those edits.
  • Undoing or redoing a Spawn brush stroke redraws the spawns once, not once per creature.
  • On Windows, opening a map no longer flashes a console window for every database query.

Faster

  • Animated models are posed only when they are drawn. Still bones are skipped and skeletons are reuploaded only when they change (creature-heavy scene 10.2 → 7.6 ms a frame).
  • The sun's near shadow map is reused between frames of a still view and only draws batches inside its box (WMO scene 12.1 → 8.8 ms).
  • Empty instanced meshes are hidden, and far particle emitters are skipped before their bone math.
  • Loading a model rebuilds only the batches it affects (creature map 107 → 10 ms a load).

Getting started (Windows)

  1. Download Meld-v0.1.0-alpha.2-windows-amd64.zip and unzip it anywhere.
  2. Run Meld.exe. It needs the WebView2 runtime, which Windows 10 and 11 already have.
  3. On first start, pick your WoW 1.12.1 client folder in Preferences.

The manual covers every tool, menu and shortcut. It's also under Help › Manual in the app.

Notes

  • This build is for Windows only. On Linux, build from source with make build-linux (see the README).
  • Please report bugs with the issue forms.
