Steam Deck installer
Download install-ember.desktop, open it from Downloads in Desktop Mode and allow it to run. It installs the latest stable SF4 Ember Netplay into ~/Ember and adds an SF4 Ember Netplay tile to your Steam library. Ultra Street Fighter IV's own tile keeps starting the plain game. Start USF4 once before installing. Full guide: https://github.com/Confetti3/SF4-Ember-Netplay-Nightly/blob/nightly/docs/guides/STEAM_DECK.md
SF4 Ember Netplay Nightly 1.4.0-nightly20261021
This Nightly adds Rankings: your own class and a board of players by class, under Online play.
If you are on a 1.4.0 Nightly, update in Ember. From an older build, run sf4-ember-netplay-1.4.0-nightly20261021-setup.exe over your current install once; your settings and recordings stay.

Public rooms build: 789db6404efce7d41d76011030062eef6886011b53376ce6228dc4878b467a27
New
- Online play > Rankings shows your class, "?" while it is still placing, or a faint emblem when you have not played for a while. It also says how classes work.
- The Rankings board lists players by class, highest first. It shows names, flags and classes, never ratings or positions. Only players with a settled class who take part are on it, and you appear once you have opened Rankings yourself.
- Take part on or off, on the Rankings page. A game counts only when both players take part. Your rating is kept while you are off, and you can change the choice once a day.
- Players still placing show "?" beside their name in public rooms, and Ember's developers show "Dev".
- Settings has a Class emblems switch that hides all class marks on your screen. Your games still count.
How classes work
- Only won games in public rooms count, between two players who each have their own Discord account linked and take part. Your class follows your Discord account.
- A class shows after ten or more games, once your rating is settled. The ranges are still being calibrated, so early classes may move.
SF4 Ember Netplay Nightly 1.4.0-nightly20261020.3
This Nightly fixes public room classes: the class emblem now shows beside a player's name once they have a class.
If you are on 1.4.0-nightly20261020 or 1.4.0-nightly20261020.2, update in Ember. From an older build, run sf4-ember-netplay-1.4.0-nightly20261020.3-setup.exe over your current install once; your settings and recordings stay.

Public rooms build: 38b6391fdce528a39e63815309d6070beced7ce7b29f196b2f592c87a8d523bd
Fixes
- Class emblems show on the table seats and in the Members list. The game stores them as plain images that Windows' image decoder can't read, so 1.4.0-nightly20261020.2 drew nothing even for a player with a class.
How classes work
- Only won games in public rooms count, and only when both players have their own Discord account linked to their Ember ID. Your class follows your Discord account, not your PC or Ember ID.
- A class shows after ten or more games, once your rating is settled, and it appears the next time you join or create a public room.
- The class ranges are still being calibrated, so early classes may move.
Known issues
- Borderless logs a wrong "could not be made DPI aware" warning at every start. It is harmless.
SF4 Ember Netplay Nightly 1.4.0-nightly20261020.2
This Nightly gathers what is ready for 1.4.0: the 1.3.1 fixes, Borderless, public room classes (rated but not shown yet), extra pad buttons, and in-app updates that work under Proton.
If you are on 1.4.0-nightly20261020, update in Ember. From an older build, run sf4-ember-netplay-1.4.0-nightly20261020.2-setup.exe over your current install once; your settings and recordings stay.

Public rooms build: 8c3f182e463f4a7eeb7bf3f7fb0740aae29fe38fac6d939c5cb96d60f38191cd
New
- Borderless, under Player and off by default, runs the game at the largest 16:9 size of your monitor in a frameless window, with black bars beside it on a wider monitor. It applies from the next launch, and Alt+Enter is held back while it is on.
- A pad's touchpad, PS or Home button, Share button and back paddles can each copy one of your layout buttons, from the button layout page. Only the buttons your pad has are listed.
- Every color in the costume and color galleries now has a preview, rendered from the game's own models.
- Public rooms now rate won games for USF4's classes, D up to Grand Master. Classes stay hidden while the ranges are calibrated, so nothing changes on screen yet.
Fixes
- Everything in 1.3.1: battles step one frame at a time whatever FrameRate says, which fixes the desync at the start of every match with FrameRate=SMOOTH, and the game comes forward when you open a link.
- In-app updates unpack the package themselves instead of using Windows' tar.exe, so they work under Wine and Proton too.
- A spectator who presses Alt+Enter is no longer dropped from the match.
- Leaving a room and joining it again right away no longer gets the new copy turned away.
- When Ember ID needs a passphrase, Create Ember ID says the key is made on this PC and protected by the passphrase.
- Two replays of the same size saved to one slot in quick succession no longer show the first one in place of the second.
Known issues
- Borderless has not been tried with a second monitor, on a plain 16:9 monitor, or with SF4E_VULKAN=1.
- The extra pad buttons have not been checked in game with a DualShock or DualSense yet.
SF4 Ember Netplay Nightly 1.4.0-nightly20261020
This Nightly is for BluMint's testing on staging. Everything the BluMint testers use now matches BluMint's partner API v2, and the staging bridge already runs the matching server side. It also lets tournament staff watch a match, and adds sign-in sites for other tournament platforms.
If you are on 1.4.0-nightly20261018, update in Ember. From an older build, run sf4-ember-netplay-1.4.0-nightly20261020-setup.exe over your current install once; your settings and recordings stay.

Public rooms build: 74358fe1aa269e2e759d1dc09cd14aa2fbbbef3c8fb272607ea8be1129422066
Tournaments
- Every match report sent to BluMint now names the creation it belongs to, as BluMint's v2 API requires. This is on the staging bridge already, so no update is needed for it.
- The staging bridge answers BluMint the way its v2 docs ask: a close always succeeds, an unknown in-game ID is reported as an unlinked player, and a round where every match starts at once no longer meets rate limits.
- Organizers can let approved staff, and anyone with the match link if they choose, watch a tournament match from inside the room. Watchers see the game and the chat but can't play or send messages. BluMint matches don't offer this yet.
- A bridge can offer sign-in sites besides Discord, such as Challonge and start.gg. They show under Online play, then Ember ID, then Linked accounts when the bridge has them.
Testing
- A two-PC test now plays a full tournament match through a bridge with nobody at either game, and checks the result the bridge records. It passed on this build.
Known issues
- Public rooms open to this build once the room hosts are updated. Private rooms and invitations work now.
- A player who quits mid-set isn't reported to BluMint as a forfeit. BluMint's own hold timer handles them, and a cancelled match goes back to BluMint to restart.
SF4 Ember Netplay Nightly 1.4.0-nightly20261018
This Nightly fixes what BluMint's testers ran into this week: the game now comes to the front when you open a link, the last game of a set no longer drops you on USF4's own menu, and a match where someone disconnects gets restarted much sooner. It also quiets the screen a little: the F10 hint goes away after a few seconds, and spectators no longer see the unread chat count over the fight.
If you are on 1.4.0-nightly20261017, update in Ember. From an older build, run sf4-ember-netplay-1.4.0-nightly20261018-setup.exe over your current install once; your settings and recordings stay.

Public rooms build: 48a6fbe66d5383d32697b8c94ecb788c2ccfdbb649aac6ac38d06e4bea38cb3b
Tournaments
- After the last game of a set, the final score stays on screen and Ember's menu comes back with "Tournament match complete." Before, the room closed under the score screen and left you on USF4's own menu until you pressed F10.
- When your opponent disconnects mid-game, Ember now tells the tournament itself, even when the other player was the room's host. The tournament sets up a new match within about half a minute instead of up to 30 minutes.
- After such a disconnect, Ember says "The connection to your opponent was lost. Waiting for the tournament to set up a new match." and checks for the new match every few seconds, so "A tournament match is ready for you" shows as soon as it exists.
- Settings, then Discord has a Tournament account row that names the Discord account your tournament site knows, or says Not connected. Choose it to connect or change it.
Opening links
- With Ember already running, Open in Ember on a website now brings the game to the front (and restores it if it was minimized) for match, room, public room, Discord and replay links. If Windows keeps the browser in front, the game's taskbar button flashes instead.
Interface
- The "SF4 Ember Netplay / F10 or Start" hint shows for 4 seconds when Ember's menu closes, then fades out. Settings, then Interface, then Menu shortcut hint turns it off.
- While spectating, the line over the match no longer shows the unread chat count. The Chat row in the room still counts it.
Docs
- A new guide to lowering input lag on the Steam version, from FRaccie.
Known issues
- Public rooms open to this build once the room hosts are updated. Private rooms and invitations work now.
- The tournament and focus changes have passed the tests but have not been tried in a real two-PC match yet. Please send sf4e.log if a set ends on USF4's menu or a dropped match isn't restarted.
SF4 Ember Netplay Nightly 1.4.0-nightly20261017
This Nightly starts the 1.4.0 line. It brings tournament play up to date with BluMint's new partner API, from Joe at BluMint: a set cut short can carry on from its score, a fighter who drops comes back at the score they left, and the site now sees who has pressed Ready. It also trusts Ember's staging tournament service out of the box, for BluMint testers.
If you are on 1.3.0-nightly20261016.3, update in Ember. From an older build, run sf4-ember-netplay-1.4.0-nightly20261017-setup.exe over your current install once; your settings and recordings stay.

Public rooms build: df4232d07261a43cad68280e389385acbf80abb7247fd1330aa7eeeab7a70b3c
Tournaments
- A set that a tournament restarts after a disconnect carries on from the score it had, instead of starting again at 0-0.
- A fighter who drops from a tournament match room comes back to the score played so far. Before, the room went back to 0-0 while the tournament kept the real score.
- A tournament match room that its host locked still lets its two fighters back in. Nobody else can join a match room anyway.
- A tournament set waits for a casual game already under way at the table to finish before it takes the table.
- The tournament site sees each fighter's Ready as they press it or take it back, so it can tell who is holding a match up.
- When the two fighters run different versions of Ember, the message now says so and asks both to update, instead of saying the tournament requires another version.
- Paste link in Connect Discord also takes a link that names the tournament site after the service, as BluMint sends it.
Staging service
- This Nightly trusts Ember's staging tournament service (bridge-staging.embernetplay.link) without asking, so BluMint's testers can open its links straight away. Linked accounts lists it as built in, but Home and your matches ignore it until you open one of its links. Ember checks the service is the one this build expects before it sends your Ember ID. You can remove it under Linked accounts like any other service. Stable builds still ask first.
Known issues
- Public rooms open to this build once the room hosts are updated. Private rooms and invitations work now.
- The tournament changes have passed the tests but have not been tried in a real two-PC match yet. Please send sf4e.log if a tournament set shows the wrong score after a reconnect.
SF4 Ember Netplay Nightly 1.3.0-nightly20261016.3
This Nightly fixes where the country flag sits on the room's battle slots.
If you are on 1.3.0-nightly20261016.2, update in Ember. From an older build, run sf4-ember-netplay-1.3.0-nightly20261016.3-setup.exe over your current install once; your settings and recordings stay.

Public rooms build: 77b8c778dc1a4dc81ef0de4dbff808057534e920706eb65977a1d39f6eb2bd63
Rooms
- On a battle slot, the country flag now sits before the player's name, as in the Members list. Before, it could end up alone on a line under the fighter's name.
Known issues
- Public rooms open to this build once the room hosts are updated. Private rooms and invitations work now.
SF4 Ember Netplay Nightly 1.3.0-nightly20261016.2
This Nightly fixes the most common crashes reported from 1.2.0, ends a dropped spectator's wait sooner, ships the controller pictures the last Nightly left out, and adds two options from FRaccie: the watched game in a corner of the menu, and each fighter's inputs beside the Training meter.
Install this one with setup.exe. It adds files that the Launcher in older builds does not accept from an in-app update, so the update in Ember fails with a validation error. Run sf4-ember-netplay-1.3.0-nightly20261016.2-setup.exe over your current install; your settings and recordings stay. Builds from this one on accept new pictures in these folders, so later Nightlies update in Ember again.

Public rooms build: 900d86d6dc991a71378dd626bbe0ad1c77d1006215745cca406f96e684d4546d
Crash fixes
- Ember no longer crashes at launch when the game starts without a Direct3D device. The overlay waits until the game has one.
- With many keyboards or keyboard-like devices connected, pressing L or D could crash or close the game. The game has room for eight keyboards; Ember now keeps its list to eight and logs how many it found. This matches the reports we have, so please tell us if it still happens.
- Ember now repairs the state behind a mid-match crash during rollback before it can crash, and logs what it found. Its cause is not known yet, so please send sf4e.log if it contains a line starting "System memento:".
Spectating
- A spectator who loads too slowly is dropped from the match five seconds after the fighters are ready. They now go back to the room about two seconds later, instead of waiting 30 seconds on the loading screen.
- Settings > Training and replays > Watched game in a corner (off at first). With it on, Ember's menu over a game you watch is opaque and the game shows live in its top right corner, a quarter of the screen. Thanks to FRaccie.
Messages
- Create room, Join room and Public rooms say what blocks them, such as no gameplay controller chosen, instead of Unavailable.
- When Windows blocks one of the game's files (Smart App Control or a managed PC's policy), the Launcher says so and no longer offers it as a crash report.
- When security software removed or blocked sf4-net.exe, Ember says so instead of showing an error number.
Controllers
- PlayStation and Switch button pictures and the controller pictures on the Controllers, Pad setup and Button layout screens are now included. The last Nightly showed text labels instead.
- A stick or pad that Ember cannot map and the game has no profile for is read by the game again, as in 1.2. Ember takes it only while you set it up, then gives it back.
Training
- HUD > Inputs on HUD shows each fighter's stick and buttons beside the frame meter, P1 left and P2 right: Off, Stick, Arrows or Hybrid. Stick draws the last 16 frames of movement in a gate. Offline Training only. Thanks to FRaccie.
- Meter history and After a pause now apply to replays and watched matches too, not only to Training.
- A warning in sf4e.log says when the frame meter stops receiving frames, to help with reports of the meter stopping after long sessions.
- The Training Lab guide is updated for the meter settings, the Classic style and recordings kept per dummy fighter. The dummy reply guide has a quick start, examples and a notation cheat sheet.
Known issues
- Public rooms open to this build once the room hosts are updated. Private rooms and invitations work now.
- The spectator change, the crash fixes and the change for sticks Ember cannot map have passed the tests but have not been tried in play yet. Please send sf4e.log if a spectator still waits on the loading screen, or if such a stick does not work in the game or in Set up buttons.
