Turbo Kart Rally 0.5.0 — online items
Turbo Kart Rally 0.5.0 adds items to online races, makes Internet mode the default, and stops a championship stalling when someone leaves between courses.
What's new
- Items online. All eight items now work in online races and championships. The host rolls every item box and decides every hit, and every racer sees every effect. Self items (rocket booster, ghost mode, grappling hook) start the moment you press.
- Internet mode is the default. Races connect through the game relay when the computers can't reach each other directly, with no launch option needed. To use direct-only LAN mode, start the game with
--lan. (0.4.0 defaulted to LAN mode, which can't connect computers on different or isolating networks.)
Fixed
- Championships no longer get stuck when a player leaves between courses. If a player closes the game or loses the network, the host continues the cup without them after 10 seconds (they score 0 for the remaining courses). If the host is the one who left, the others see the standings so far, "CUP ENDED · THE HOST LEFT" and a NEW LOBBY button.
Compatibility
- 0.5.0 uses the same network as 0.4.0 (no DNA change), so 0.4.0 and 0.5.0 players can share a lobby. Items only turn on when every racer runs 0.5.0. If anyone in the lobby has an older build, the race has no items.
- 0.5.0 keeps its data in a new directory, so a 0.4.0 install is left untouched.
- 0.5.0 does not connect to v0.1–v0.3.
Install (Linux, x86-64)
sudo apt install ./dev.holochain-moq.turbo-kart_0.5.0_amd64.debCheck the download first:
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMSKnown limitations
- Linux only for online play. Windows builds are single-player only (no realtime connection yet).
- Internet mode relays through
dev-test-bootstrap2.holochain.org, a Holochain dev/test service with no uptime guarantee. - Collisions between online karts can feel uneven. Each lobby holds one race (or one cup).
- Players in a race drop out of the "players online" count after a few minutes.
