v0.9.44
MPCvibedRPC 0.9.44
What's new
- 🧵 Plex, Stremio and Jellyfin / Emby share one web client: requests have a time limit; a redirect elsewhere is refused.
- ⏱️ Plex: a plex.tv or a server that accepts the connection and then stays silent no longer stalls the watcher.
- 🔐 Updates: the checksum is read first, only GitHub addresses are accepted, and an unchanged answer costs no rate limit.
- 🧩 The settings page is split into markup, style and script, with a stricter content policy and a label for every field.
- 📌 Text you select in the log or the connections list stays selected; a hidden window stops asking for the status.
- 🪟 Windows: whether the program starts with Windows is read from the registry directly, without a helper program.
- ✂️ The four longest pieces of the code are split into named steps, with no change in what they do.
- 🧰 CI: live player and server tests once per pull request; the release text comes from this changelog.
Nothing to do: the update installs itself (Windows and Linux, unless you switched that off), and your settings and
sign-ins are kept.
Get it
- Windows: download
MPCvibedRPC.exeand run it, or install it from the Updates section of the version you
have. Your settings are kept. - macOS 13 or later: download
MPCvibedRPC-macos.zipand move the app to Applications (the first time,
System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway). - Linux: download
MPCvibedRPC-linux-amd64(or-arm64),chmod +xit and run it.
Every system needs the Discord desktop app with User Settings > Activity Privacy > "Share my activity" on (Activity
Privacy is in the Games & Apps section, called Activity Settings in older Discord versions). To check a download, see
SECURITY.md.
v0.9.43
MPCvibedRPC 0.9.43
A release for the project's own checks. Nothing changes in what the program does.
Changed
- Faster tests. The engine's tests, which drive a fake Discord and fake players, now run side by side and ask their
fakes every 25 ms instead of every 250 ms: the whole suite takes about a tenth of the time it did. The pace of the
real program is unchanged (it still asks a player every 5 seconds by default, never more often than every 250 ms). - Checks that keep the texts true. Four new tests fail when the documentation drifts from the code: every setting
must have its row and default indocs/config.md, every text that lists the players must name them all, the release
notes must be for the version being built, and the settings page's script must parse. - Two code analysers on every change.
staticcheckanddeadcoderun on the Linux CI job; the few findings they
had are fixed (a stale field, a constant block in the wrong file, two style points). - The exe's file description and the developer notes name every player.
Nothing to do: the update installs itself, and your settings and sign-ins are kept.

v0.9.42
MPCvibedRPC 0.9.42
A maintenance release from a full checkup of the code: eight small fixes, nothing new to set up.
Fixed
- The status appears at once. When Discord is reached, the program showed what you were watching only at its
next check (up to five seconds later). Now it shows it the moment the connection is made. - Automatic updates cannot crash the program. An update that was waiting for a quiet moment and then called off
(a newer check found nothing, or Restore defaults) could end the program when the moment came. - A stale "updated itself" note. If the program was started by hand after an automatic update had not got going,
the next update by hand was mistaken for an automatic one. The leftover is now cleared on every start by hand. - Plex: no sign-in left behind. Signing out at the very moment a token renewal or a server change finished could
leave a sign-in in the settings file with no account. Both now happen under the same lock as the sign-out. - Copy diagnostics hides more. Besides the folders it already left out, it now also leaves out home folders
(~/...), any Unix path of two or more parts, file:addresses, the addresses of computers on your network and the
Kodi user name. Titles and file names stay, as before, so a wrong title can still be traced. A test now fails when
a setting whose name says it is a sign-in, a key, a password or an address is not covered. - Faults in background tasks are logged. A fault in the Discord connection, a server watcher, a sign-in or the
update check used to close the program without a word; it now ends only that task and writes a line to the log. - Linux: a broken D-Bus message can no longer hang the program. A message on the session bus with an empty
dictionary entry kept the reader busy for ever; it is now refused like any other broken message. - PotPlayer, Kodi and IINA are named everywhere the players are listed (the player order in the docs, the
program's file description); dead code and stale comments from the checkup are gone.
Nothing to do: the update installs itself, and your settings and sign-ins are kept.

v0.9.41
MPCvibedRPC 0.9.41
A security update: newer certificate checks, and a tighter hold on your Plex sign-in.
Fixed
- Built with Go 1.27.3. Go's makers found a set of web certificates no longer safe to trust and published a fix
on 2026-10-19 (GO-2026-6809). Every connection the program makes over https depends on these checks: plex.tv,
Stremio, the catalogs, and GitHub, where updates come from. - Plex: your sign-in only goes where it belongs. Before, the program sent your Plex sign-in along when it tried
each address plex.tv lists for your server, so a different computer at a local address (on another network, say)
could have received it. Now it first asks the address who it is, without the sign-in, and sends it only once the
answer is your server. A server shared with you only ever gets the key plex.tv made for it, never your account's
own sign-in.
Nothing to do: the update installs itself, and your settings and sign-ins are kept.
If you run a Plex server: Plex Media Server 1.43.2 and older has flaws that attackers have used since
2026-10-17 ("Plex2Shell"). If yours ran such a version and could be reached from the internet, update it and follow
Plex's advice (sign out of all devices, choose a new password), then sign in to
Plex again in this app (Accounts > Plex).

v0.9.40
MPCvibedRPC 0.9.40
No more leftover statuses; updates install themselves, and the icon shows when one is waiting.
Fixed
- A status that stayed on Discord after you closed the player. When Discord was busy and answered a status update
late, the program took it for "not shown", so when you stopped watching it never took the status down, until the
program quit. Now every update counts as shown until it is cleared, a clear Discord does not take is tried again at
the next check, and while nothing plays the status is cleared again once a minute, so a missed clear cannot linger. - A video paused at its very end (some players stay on the last frame) counts as finished: the status goes at
once instead of showing "Paused" until the pause limit.
What's new
- Automatic updates (Windows and Linux). When a new version is out, the program installs it by itself as soon as
nothing is playing and the settings window is closed, so a status on Discord is never cut off mid-episode. It
restarts quietly in the tray and says once that it was updated. Every update is still checked against its checksum,
and if the new version does not start, the old one keeps running. Switch it off under General > Updates > Install
updates automatically; then the window and the tray notice offer the update as before. - A red dot on the icon while an update waits: on the tray icon on Windows, and on the menu bar icon on macOS
(where the window links to the new download). - More frequent checks: every six hours instead of once a day, besides the check a few seconds after starting.
From this version on, updates arrive by themselves. Copies of an older version still show the update notice and
need one click on Install.

v0.9.39
MPCvibedRPC 0.9.39
A download counter that counts people. The program itself is unchanged.
What's new
- Downloads by people. The download badge on the project page used to add up every file of every release,
checksums included, and most of those downloads were the project's own release checks. It now counts only the
program files (the Windows exe, the Linux programs and the macOS app), from a fresh start on 2026-10-18 (every
release file was replaced by its identical copy, so links, checksums and updates are unchanged), minus every
download the project makes itself: the release checks and the AI agents that build the program record each of
theirs, and those are taken off. The program never reports anything about anyone; it only reads GitHub's counts.

v0.9.38
MPCvibedRPC 0.9.38
Specials named in words, fixed for real catalogs, and double episodes.
What's new
- Specials named in words, now with real catalogs. 0.9.36 taught the program that
Sample Show - Special 01
is the show's special (season 0). A check against the real Cinemeta found two cases it still missed: with a year
in brackets (Sample Show (2010) - Special 01) the special's words were dropped as an edition note, and when a
catalog answers the whole name with the show itself, the show's cover came without the special's name. Both now
show the special's name. The weekly check looks one real special up this way, so a change at the catalog is noticed. - Specials keep their own label. Such a special now shows the file's own words (
OVA 3,Special 1) on the
cover and, when no catalog knows its name, as its second line, instead ofSeason 0, Episode 3. Shows that are
themselves OVA series number their episodes that way, and the TV databases' season 0 may not agree. A show cached
for such a file by an earlier version gets the special's name too. - Double episodes.
Sample Show - S01E05 - S01E06showed "S01E06" as the episode's title; it is now
S01E05E06. - Security check. CI's Go vulnerability check is updated to govulncheck 1.9.0.

v0.9.37
MPCvibedRPC 0.9.37
More file names are recognised as episodes.
What's new
- Episode codes in square brackets.
Sample Show [S01E02].mkv(or[1x02]) lost its episode number, because
square brackets usually hold release tags. Now the episode is read, so its name is looked up like any other. - More episode forms.
Sample Show S2E5is shown asS02E05, a double episode writtenE05-E06(or
s01e05-e06) is read as one file covering both, andSample Show Ep. 5with a dot is an episode too.

v0.9.36
MPCvibedRPC 0.9.36
Specials named in words are found, and the weekly check covers the newest mpv.
What's new
- Specials named in words. A file such as
Sample Show - Special 02.mkv,Sample Show - OVA 2.mkvor
[Group] Sample Show - SP2.mkvused to find no cover when no catalog lists that special as a title of its own.
The name is still searched as it is first (AniList lists many OVAs on their own, and those keep their own cover);
when nothing matches, the program now searches the show and shows the special as its season 0: the show's cover
and the special's name (Season 0, Episode 2, as a file namedS00E02already gets). AlsoOAD,ONAand a
season marker before it (Sample Show S01 OVA 2). - Wider weekly check. mpv is now also tried every week as Flathub ships it (its makers' newest release), over its
IPC socket, with a pause that must show at once, next to VLC and Celluloid.
Get it
- Windows: download
MPCvibedRPC.exeand run it, or install it from the Updates section of the version you
have. Your settings are kept. - macOS 13 or later: download
MPCvibedRPC-macos.zipand move the app to Applications (the first time,
System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway). - Linux: download

SECURITY.md.
v0.9.35
MPCvibedRPC 0.9.35
Instant updates for Kodi and the Linux players, names for specials, and Plex's newer sign-in made ready.
What's new
- Kodi and the Linux players: changes show at once. Kodi and the players read through D-Bus on Linux (VLC,
Celluloid, mpv with mpv-mpris and the like) now tell the program when they pause, resume, seek or change file, so
that reaches Discord within a moment instead of at the next check, as mpv and IINA already did. Kodi sends these
notifications on port 9090 of its address when Allow remote control from applications on this system is on (the
default; on other systems for a Kodi on another device). Without it, Kodi is checked every 5 seconds as before. - Specials get their names. A file named as a special (such as
Sample Show - S00E01.mkv, as TV databases and
media servers number them) now gets its episode name from Cinemeta without a TMDB key. Files without a season
number are never counted onto a special. The many catalog services stay on purpose: every show, film and special
should be found. - Plex's newer sign-in, ready but off. Plex is moving to tokens that last 7 days and are renewed with a key of each
app's own. The program can now sign in that way and renew the token in time, but it stays off (plexJwtin
config.json) until Plex requires it: the long-lived sign-in keeps working, and Plex has set no end date. - Wider weekly check. Besides Ubuntu's packages, VLC and Celluloid are now also tried every week as Flathub
ships them (their makers' newest releases), and the check of the catalog services includes a special.
