R1.0.0 Beta1
R1.0.0 Beta1
Technical
- Kodi 22 RC1 update.
- Repository rebuild with CB1 0.1: Dolby Vision processing is separated from the playback layer through a dedicated API, making it easier to reuse, test and develop independently.
Rendering options for Dolby Vision input
- DV Native (Standard TV-Led): standard Dolby Vision playback, preserving the original metadata and creative intent.
- DV Enhanced: Natural or Signature presets adjust existing Dolby Vision metadata to make better use of the display's peak brightness. Controlled highlight and dynamic-range enhancement preserves black levels and shadow detail.
- HDR10 Basic / Expert: Dolby Vision-to-HDR10 conversion, including FEL reconstruction. Basic uses source-derived information. Expert uses a display profile and supported CM2.9/CM4 creative metadata for dynamic tone mapping into HDR10, including on displays without Dolby Vision support.
- HDR10 Fallback: standard Kodi playback when Dolby Vision support is disabled, using the compatible HDR10 base layer where available.
Rendering options for HDR10 input
- DV Reconstructed (AI): image analysis and a compact, included LightGBM model estimate L1 and L3 Dolby Vision metadata while preserving the HDR10 source pixels.
- DV Enhanced (AI): Natural or Signature presets process the HDR10 source using the display profile and AI scene analysis, extending usable dynamic range while protecting blacks and shadow detail. Output luminance metadata reflects the processed image.
- HDR10 Native: native HDR10 playback without CB1 conversion.
Settings: Player > Videos. Standard Dolby Vision is the default.
Playback controls
- Quick rendering switch: change the available output modes during playback to compare their rendering on the same scene.

R0.2.1-opt1
R0.2.1a-opt1
- Lighter automatic diagnostics: useful DV and HDMI/kernel details are kept
in Kodi's normal log, with repeated messages grouped and limited. Global debug
logging is no longer needed for these details. - Broader Standard-DV display compatibility: player and driver now share
v0/v1/v2 capability checks and select the matching HDMI signaling. - Gentler HDMI recovery: short-lived failures can recover immediately;
persistent failures are paced without permanently excluding the display. - More reliable Profile 7 FEL playback: fixes picture-order issues and freezes after seeking in affected files, while preserving the requested playback position.
R0.1.0-rc2-opt1
- Enhanced diagnostic logging to make playback issues easier to investigate.
Opt1 - Lower Dolby Vision GPU load
- Black-bar optimization: skips unnecessary processing outside the active picture. Not limited to FEL—applies to supported DV profiles with active-area metadata. Around 11% lower rendering load in tested letterboxed sections.
- libplacebo optimization: removes redundant filtering work without changing image quality. Not limited to FEL, with around 12% lower rendering load in tested full-frame sections.
Combined: approximately 16% lower rendering load overall, up to 24% in letterboxed sections.
Measured on i7-11390H.
