Fish Species
Fishtastic adds 18 catchable fish species. Each has a data-driven profile that defines its base weight in the loot pool, mean/standard deviation for size rolls, and environmental multipliers for biome, time of day, and weather.
Vanilla fish (Cod, Salmon, Tropical Fish, Pufferfish) can still appear in the minigame loot pool. By default they have higher base weights, so they are more common than any single Fishtastic species — but bait can shift this dramatically (see Bait).
These fish appear when using Worms or Gummy Worms (or no bait).

Spoiler: Exotic species, sizes, environmental hints, and temperament
| Species | Base Weight | Avg Size | Std Dev | Best Conditions | Temperament |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Portuguese Man O' War | 5 | 40 cm | 10 cm | Ocean + night + rain/thunder | Erratic |
| Molten Moorish Idol | 5 | 55 cm | 10 cm | Night + thunderstorm (×4) | Erratic |

| Frozen Giant Manta Ray | 5 | 80 cm | 15 cm | Any, night + rain | Erratic |
| Ocean Sunfish | 3 | 90 cm | 20 cm | Ocean, daytime (rarest) | Docile |
Vanilla fish remain in the pool at high base weights, so they are common when using no bait or Worms.
| Vanilla Fish | Weight |
|---|---|
| Cod | 200 |
| Salmon | 200 |
| Tropical Fish | 50 |
| Pufferfish | 25 |
Using Gummy Worms applies a ×0.2 multiplier to all vanilla fish weights, pushing them into the background.
Sizes, base weights, and all environmental multipliers are defined in JSON files at:
data/fishtastic/fish_profile/<species_name>.json
Pack authors can override any species' profile without touching code. The "temperament" field in each profile is an optional reference to a temperament registry entry (data/fishtastic/fishtastic/temperament/<name>.json), which defines the difficulty range and movement pattern pool for that species in the fishing minigame. See Bait for the full schema and the /fishprofile command for inspecting profiles in-game.
The Pile of Fish is a bundle-type item that can hold multiple fish in a single stack. It stacks to 1. Useful for transporting a haul or displaying a varied collection in a tank.
Items with a size above 100 cm cannot be placed into a single-block fish tank. You need a tank arrangement at least 3 blocks wide and 3 blocks tall. Large exotic species like Giant Manta Ray and Ocean Sunfish will often exceed this at Epic or Legendary quality.
