A big update with macOS support, AI agent control, new editing tools, and a batch of everyday fixes.

  • Added MCP support — you can now let AI agents like Claude Code control the editor
  • Improved macOS support, including a working video preview
  • .drift project files now open with the editor when you double-click them
  • Cut a multi-camera shoot by watching every camera at once and switching between them
  • Find scenes inside a clip and jump straight to them
  • New 3D Face Mesh effect that follows the face through the clip
  • Mark an In and Out on the timeline to play and export just that range
  • Export short clips as animated GIFs
  • A portrait layout for vertical videos, with the preview on top
  • Zoom and pan the preview; drag or delete keyframes on the graph
  • Choose 1440p when setting up a project
  • Windows releases include a portable zip that needs no installer
  • Pick a language in Settings — More languages coming soon
  • Choose how many words go in each auto-generated caption
  • Fixed lag and audio going out of sync when two clips from the same file overlap
  • Fixed silent playback on some Windows audio devices
  • Phone videos keep their portrait size instead of becoming a square
  • Transitions no longer reset when you click them
  • Scrolling over a slider no longer also scrolls the panel behind it
  • Starting a new project now fully clears the previous one

Installing

  • AppImage (Linux, any distro): chmod +x Drift-*.AppImage && ./Drift-*.AppImage
  • Windows installer: run Drift-Setup-*.exe
  • Windows portable: extract Drift-Portable-*.zip anywhere and run drift.exe from
the Drift folder inside it. Nothing is installed, but settings and addons are still
    stored per-user under %APPDATA%\Drift.
  • macOS (Apple Silicon): open Drift-*-arm64.dmg and drag Drift to Applications. The
app is signed ad-hoc rather than notarised, so the first launch needs right-click →
Open, or xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Drift.app.
  • Arch Linux: sudo pacman -U drift-*.pkg.tar.zst
  • Flatpak: requires flatpak with the Flathub remote added (flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo), then flatpak install --user Drift-*.flatpak

Fonts, stickers, speech models and GPU/CPU acceleration runtimes are not bundled — install
the ones you want from the Addon Manager in the app header.
