🇺🇸 English - Installation & Error Fix Guide

If you encounter errors while upgrading to BlackBox v1.0.9, follow these steps in order for a clean and successful installation:

🎮 Step-by-Step Installation

  • Delete the Old File: Manually delete the old PPSA01453.ffpkg file located inside the /data/homebrew directory.
  • Uninstall Old Version: Completely delete/uninstall the older version of BlackBox from your console.
  • Download the Latest Version: Get the updated file from the official BlackBox v1.0.9 Release Page.
  • Transfer the New File: Copy the newly downloaded PPSA01453.ffpkg file into the /data/homebrew folder.
  • Trigger the Installation: Use shadowmount to trigger and install the newly placed .ffpkg file.
  • Reboot if Needed: If you still encounter warnings or errors, restart your console and try again.

⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING: NEVER use Payload Manager during this process! The blackbox.elf file is embedded inside PPSA01453.ffpkg and updates automatically. Do NOT load blackbox.elf manually via payload manager.

BlackBox 1.0.9 is here: better Viking handling, immediate ShadowMount registration, catalogue updates, and a cleaner automatic install path for PS4 packages.

New

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (60FPS) (CUSA03041) and its v1.32 and 60 FPS patch are now in the catalogue with cover and hero artwork.
  • Catalogue revision 42 with the latest feed refreshes without reinstalling the app.
  • TorBox-supported Viking downloads: when TorBox is available, the file can be resolved through TorBox; when it is unavailable, BlackBox continues directly.
  • ShadowMount registration happens immediately when an image download (.exfat, image formats) finishes.
  • PS4 .pkg downloads continue to the console installer automatically when the transfer completes.
  • This "What's new" section shows release notes in the selected TV language.
  • An install rejection from the console is reported back to Downloads instead of being treated as a silent success.

Fixes

  • Viking downloads no longer look stuck when TorBox does not answer; direct fallback keeps the queue moving.
  • Downloads show a clear completed state after the file is written, separate from mount/install stages.
  • .exfat and other image downloads are written to the ShadowMount manual list right after completion.
  • The catalogue refresh handles Red Dead Redemption 2 entries and stays backward compatible with the current feed.
  • Sound cue and toast for finished downloads remain consistent wherever you are in the app.
  • Ten TV languages validated and re-sorted; no remaining untranslated entries in the affected table.
  • The single .ffpkg still carries the payload, so installing it updates everything.

Updating

  • On 1.0.8: open BlackBox → App settings → Updates → check, then install. The download service updates itself and restarts; the TV app installs for the next launch.
  • On 1.0.5, 1.0.6 or 1.0.7: the same Updates flow applies.
  • Do not switch versions backwards during the update.
