@DLoughlin DLoughlin released this 08 Jul 21:44

This release (2.2-20260722/23) currently includes:

  • the full package for global GCAM (Scenario Builder + Model Interface + GCAM 9.1) for Windows and Mac
  • the full package for GCAM-USA (Scenario Builder + Model Interface + GCAM-USA 9.1) for Windows and Mac
  • the stand-alone cross-platform GLIMPSE-CE ModelInterface, which can be used independently of GLIMPSE-CE

Contributors to this release include Dan Loughlin, Prabhat Hegde (Mac version), and Margaret and Kathleen Loughlin (documentation).

GLIMPSE-CE v2.2 updates versus v2.1 include:

  • MAJOR: Integration of GCAM(-USA) 9.1
  • Improvements to startup speed
  • Bug fixes and improvements to look and feel of both the GLIMPSE-CE Scenario Builder and Model Interface
  • Draft documentation, including tutorials is accessible at https://github.com/DLoughlin/GLIMPSE-CE/blob/main/docs/contents.md
  • Addition of new experimental, complex queries calculating market shares, emission rates, etc.
  • Separate release zip files for Global GCAM and GCAM-USA
  • Support for Mac platform

Notes:

  • The GCAM(-USA) reference scenario has been modified slightly in this release. In both GCAM and GCAM-USA, the onroad light-duty vehicle share weights have been modified to allow sales of electric cars and trucks in 2025. In GCAM-USA, 2025 onroad light-duty vehicle share weights have been modified to approximate estimates of state-level sales shares for electric and hybrid vehicles in 2025. Onroad emission factors have been updated to address missing values for some technologies.
  • The GLIMSPE-CE Scenario Builder requires a Java 1.8 installation that integrates the JavaFX library. We include Amazon Corretto JRE 1.8 in the Windows GLIMPSE zip files since it includes the JavaFX library. The Mac version is packaged with Liberica JDK 8. As an alternative, you can download and install a version of the Java JRE 1.8 that incorporates JavaFX (not all do). You will need to modify the run-GCAM*.bat or run-GCAM*.sh (for windows and Mac, respectively) to point to your installed JRE.
  • We believe that recent changes to Windows Defender can result in the packaged java.exe and javaw.exe files to be constantly scanned, slowing software execution significantly. You can avoid this issue by adding java.exe and javaw.exe to the exemption list in Defender. Alternatively, installing a compatible version of Java (as mentioned in the previous note) may eliminate the problem.
  • This is our first Mac release. Please report any issues or bugs here: https://github.com/DLoughlin/GLIMPSE-CE/issues
  • GitHub Co-Pilot AI was used in the development of GLIMPSE-CE.
  • The GLIMPSE-CE comes with no warranty, and developers assume no risk from the use of GLIMPSE-CE and the underlying GCAM model

Please email Dan Loughlin at danloughlin@gmail.com to get on the GLIMPSE-CE mailing list for upcoming demos and trainings.
