🚀 Release Notes: EdgePowerMeter v1.5.0

This release introduces a complete overhaul of the code architecture to ensure greater maintainability, along with powerful new data analysis features and significant improvements to cross-platform usability.

🧱 Architecture and Maintainability

The entire codebase has been migrated to a modular architecture (one class per file) to ensure clear separation of concerns and facilitate future development.

  • Modular Reorganization: The code structure has been reorganized into a fully modular architecture.
  • New Packages: Introduction of dedicated packages for a clear separation of tasks: core/, serial/, export/, ui/dialogs/, ui/theme/.
  • Separation of Concerns: Clean separation of concerns achieved throughout the application.
  • Dependencies: Added the scipy dependency, necessary for FFT functionalities.

✨ New Features and Data Analysis

  • FFT Spectrum Analysis: New spectrum analysis function via Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), with configurable settings. Results can optionally be included in exported PDF reports.
  • Moving Average Filter: Implemented a moving average filter for noise reduction on measurement data.
  • Time-Based Scrolling: Configurable time-based scrolling window for dynamic data visualization.

🖥️ Usability and User Interface

  • Cursor Values: Display of exact data point values on hover with the addition of a crosshair.
  • Persistent Settings: Full persistence of settings implemented via QSettings for consistent startup.
  • Automatic Reconnect: OS event-based automatic reconnection function for monitoring serial port status.
  • Configurable Grid: Configurable graph grid (on/off, opacity).
  • Improved Design: Enlarged settings dialog for better User Experience (UX).
  • Consistent Startup: All settings are now correctly applied upon application startup.

📦 Build Updates and Cross-Platform

  • Cross-Platform Icon Support: Added specific and professional icons for Linux, Windows (.ico), and macOS (.icns).
  • Icon Formats: Support for .png, .ico, and .icns formats.
  • Improved Debian Package: The Debian package (.deb) now correctly supports the hicolor standard for icon management.
  • GNOME Fix: Resolved a bug that ensures the correct display of the application's icon in the GNOME dock.
