Modern Recycle Bin 1.2.0 — installing it is now one line

New

A one-click install path, built for networks where github.com does not
answer.
Paste this into PowerShell and it fetches the newest release and starts
it:

irm https://ghfast.top/https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Dannyzzy/Modern-Recycle-Bin/main/Install-ModernRecycleBin.cmd -OutFile "$env:TEMP\mrb-install.cmd"; & "$env:TEMP\mrb-install.cmd"

What makes it worth having rather than just a download link:

  • It downloads through PowerShell, not curl. An accelerator sets a Windows
proxy that curl ignores — so "the browser opens GitHub, but the download times
out at 0 bytes" is a real state on a real machine. Measured here, not guessed.
  • Direct first, then the ghfast.top mirror, so it works
    with or without an accelerator.
  • The download is size-checked. A truncated transfer or an error page never
reaches the installer pretending to be one.
  • It never fails quietly. When both channels fail it prints every address it
    tried, plus the manual steps.

Changed

  • The title bar now reads as two levels. The app name and the version number
used to sit in one flat grey line; the name is now brighter and the version
recedes, so the eye lands on the brand first.
  • Screenshots in the README are re-shot at this version — the published installer
    screenshot still said 1.0.0.

Modern Recycle Bin 1.1.0

Installer redesign.

Changed

  • The installer is now DPI aware. The previous build was not, so on a 125% or
150% display Windows scaled the finished window bitmap and every glyph looked
soft. Metrics and fonts are now scaled by the real DPI and text is rendered with
    ClearType.
  • The whole window is drawn with GDI+: a borderless rounded frame, the two
options as cards with custom checkboxes, a custom progress bar and a single
call-to-action. The stock WinForms controls (group box, progress bar, flat
button) that made it look dated are gone.
  • Options can be toggled by clicking anywhere on their card, and the window can be
dragged from any empty area and closed with Escape.
  • The interface language, options and behaviour are unchanged, and the previous
silent switches (--silent, --no-shortcut, --no-takeover) still work.

Install

Download ModernRecycleBinSetup.exe below and run it — no administrator rights
needed. To remove it later, run Uninstall.cmd in the install folder; the desktop
Recycle Bin is restored to the system default automatically.

Modern Recycle Bin 1.0.0

First public release — a Recycle Bin for Windows 11 rebuilt with WebView2 + HTML/CSS,
with the features the built-in one has never had.

What's new

  • Restore anywhere — pick any folder instead of only the original location
  • Copy out — take a copy of a file while keeping the original in the bin
  • Image previews — see a thumbnail in the details pane before restoring
  • Filter by type and search over name, original path and type
  • Conflict handling — overwrite, skip, or keep both
  • Windows 11 styling — Fluent dark theme, 40 px rows, rounded hover states, smooth motion
  • Comfortable / compact density and Ctrl+scroll zoom
  • Opens in about 300 ms — window visible in ~100 ms

Install

  1. Download ModernRecycleBinSetup.exe below and run it — no administrator rights needed
  2. Optionally create a desktop shortcut and let the desktop Recycle Bin open with this app
  3. To remove it later, run Uninstall.cmd in the install folder; the system default is restored automatically

Prefer no installer? Grab ModernRecycleBin-portable.zip and just run RecycleBin.exe.

Requirements

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. The WebView2 Runtime is preinstalled on Windows 11; if it is
missing the installer tells you and links to Microsoft's official download.

Notes

  • The binaries are not code-signed, so SmartScreen may ask you to confirm — choose More info → Run anyway, or build from source with build.cmd
  • The interface is currently Simplified Chinese; English strings are planned
