A softer close. A clearer open.

cladofold. blurs and draws soft dark borders around your MacBook's built-in display as you close the lid, then clears the effect as you reopen it.

  • Animation begins from your working lid position. Full darkness defaults to 30° above fully closed, with brighter early folds and an adjustable endpoint.
  • Customize blur, borders, darkening, smoothing, and whether blur stays while the lid is still, in the app or System Settings.
  • Screen access is verified before the app reports ready. Failed capture checks stop automatic retries, including across app restarts, and provide a clear recovery action.
  • Rendering keeps at most one GPU frame in flight. Desktop frames stay temporarily in memory and are never saved or transmitted.

This is an ad-hoc-signed, unnotarized preview (1.3.0, build 9). macOS may require its app-specific Open Anyway step. Rebuilt previews may also require refreshing cladofold.'s Screen Recording entry; stable Developer ID signing is still pending. Read the included READ ME and Apple's opening instructions.

Download the DMG and drag cladofold. into Applications. The ZIP is an alternative; both include setup instructions. Enable Screen Recording, complete macOS authentication and Quit & Reopen if asked, then confirm that the app says Ready. If an older permission entry remains enabled but capture is denied, refresh only cladofold.'s entry using the included troubleshooting steps.

Requires macOS 14+, Metal, an active built-in display, and Screen Recording permission. Automatic lid animation also needs a readable lid-angle sensor. Native Apple silicon and Intel versions are included; see the compatibility matrix.

Validation: 102 native checks pass. GitHub's universal Mac build passes. The installed app, ZIP app, and DMG app have matching executable hashes and valid local signatures. A live six-second desktop preview completed, the owner confirmed partial-close/hold/reopen behavior, and a normal app restart retained access without another permission prompt. Intel, macOS 14, fresh installation on a second Mac, and full sleep/wake behavior remain device-testing items.
