@Darhkfox Darhkfox released this 20 Oct 16:35

Version 1.1 of the Windows and Android port of Castle of Illusion, QuackShot and World of Illusion. It adds achievements, widescreen through every part of Castle of Illusion, optional CD-quality soundtracks for Castle of Illusion and QuackShot, new cheats and fully rebindable hotkeys.

You need your own ROMs. This release contains no game code or data. It needs good dumps of the USA versions:

  • Mickey Mouse - Castle of Illusion (U) [!].bin (CRC32 BA4E9FD0)
  • Quack Shot Starring Donald Duck (JUE) (REV 00) [!].bin (CRC32 88C8DD94)
  • World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck (U) [!].bin (CRC32 921EBD1C)

Other regions, revisions, hacks or bad dumps aren't supported; the launcher names what it found instead of starting it.

Downloads

  • Windows: Mickey-and-Donald-Collection-v1.1-win64.zip. Extract it anywhere, put your ROMs next to DisneyClassics.exe (or in a roms folder there) and run it. Windows 10/11, 64-bit; nothing to install.
  • Android: Mickey-and-Donald-Collection-Android-v1.1.apk. Open it on your phone, then tap Add ROMs in the app. It installs over v1.0 as an update. 64-bit, Android 6.0 or later.

What's new

Achievements

  • 53 achievements across the three games and the collection: beat the bosses, clear the worlds, pull off tricky moves and find the secret ones. Each one pops up as you earn it, and the launcher's Achievements page lists them all with your progress.
  • To keep them fair, cheats, level select, fast forward and rewind are switched off while achievements are on. Save states still work. Achievements count in a game started with them on.
  • You can turn achievements off at any time (Options, or the top of the Achievements page). Everything comes back straight away.

Castle of Illusion: widescreen all the way through

  • Boss fights now fill the whole screen. Each fight keeps the original 4:3 arena, so it plays exactly as before; the rest of the room is shown dimmed (Mickey can't go there), and the bosses' attacks stay visible in it.
  • The Storm's boss room no longer shows its solid back wall; the room carries on, dimmed, at the sides.
  • The castle hallway (Mickey's walk to each round's door) and the final walk to Mizrabel's tower are in widescreen too.

MD+ soundtracks (Castle of Illusion and QuackShot)

  • Play fan-made CD-quality MD+ soundtrack packs, made for the MegaSD and Mega EverDrive Pro. Packs aren't included; you supply them.
  • Windows: drop the pack's folder into a soundtracks folder next to DisneyClassics.exe. Android: Options > Audio > Add Soundtrack… and pick the pack's folder.
  • Choose it per game under Options > Audio > Soundtracks. The patch is applied in memory, so your ROM is never changed. The sound effects stay the console's own. Save states, rewind and the level select keep the music in step, and Soundtrack Volume sets its level.
  • The Music Player plays the arranged tracks too. Press Tab or (Y) to switch between the original and the arranged version of the same tune, and browse the pack's extra tracks, such as each boss's own theme.

Cheats and controls

  • New Castle of Illusion cheats from the classic Game Genie codes: Walk Faster (a steady 2.3 px/frame), Moon Jump and Jump in Midair. The two jumps don't work together, so turning one on turns the other off.
  • Every hotkey can be rebound on the keyboard and on a gamepad: fast forward, rewind, menu, quick save, quick load and screenshot (Options > Controls, Player 1's page). Esc always opens the menu as well.

Also new

  • Black frame insertion for 120 Hz and faster screens, for sharper motion.
  • The level select keeps an MD+ soundtrack playing, and its Start question now begins on Yes.
  • Options shows the fast forward and rewind keys next to their switches. Rows that are unavailable while achievements are on are greyed out.
  • A first-start page explains achievements, and the version number is shown in the launcher and Credits.

Upgrading from v1.0

Your settings and save states carry over. Achievements start switched on: if you'd rather keep using cheats, level select, fast forward or rewind, choose Turn achievements off on the first-start page or under Options. A save state made in v1.0 loads fine, but achievements count only after a Reset Game.
