GraXpert 4.0.0 Charon adds native support for Siril-style, sample-free background extraction

New Features

  • Added Siril-style, sample-free, automatic background extraction (contributed by Frank)

Changes and Release Notes

  • .fits keywords in exported .fits images are now capped to 8 characters for better .fits compatability
  • although the sample-free background extraction in itself is backwards-compatible, we decided to bump GraXpert's major version due to breaking changes wrt. operating system requirements (cf. system requirements below)

System Requirements

  • Windows amd64: 10 and later (note: we could not test Charon on Windows 10, only on Windows 11)
  • Linux amd64: CUDA 13 for gpu acceleration of GraXpert's AI models
  • macos arm64: macos 14 (due to the available Github hosted runners)
  • macos amd64: macos 15 (due to the available Github hosted runners). Please note: GraXpert for amd64 is deprecated by now since we had to pin Python to version 3.13. All other targets are based on Python 3.14 by now
  • for any other target you would have to build from sources

Known issues

  • [Linux] we use tkinter as a gui framework which shows certain rendering issues on Wayland
