Retromind 0.0.1 (Linux AppImage)

Retromind is a media frontend for Linux focused on games, movies, books and more.
It is designed to be portable, controller‑friendly and run well on Linux desktops.

Note: This is an early version (Alpha, as of 2025-12-31).

1. Download

Linux (x86_64)

2. Install / Run

Download the AppImage and make it executable:

chmod +x Retromind-0.0.1-linux-x86_64.AppImage

2.1 Start BigMode directly

./Retromind-0.0.1-linux-x86_64.AppImage -- --bigmode

2.2 Start the regular desktop UI

./Retromind-0.0.1-linux-x86_64.AppImage

3. What’s new in 0.0.1

Since this is the first public release, the full change history would be a bit overwhelming.
Future releases will have a proper, detailed changelog here.

4. Known issues / limitations

  • Background video + attract mode (Arcade theme)
    When attract mode starts in the Arcade theme, the background video can currently freeze on a single frame.
    Functionally this is fine (it behaves like a static wallpaper), but it may be improved in future versions.

  • Linux only
    Windows is not supported at the moment.

  • Early version
    Expect rough edges, missing settings and occasional layout glitches.
    Feedback and bug reports are very welcome.

5. System requirements

  • Linux x86_64
  • GLibC ≥ 2.42
  • OpenGL/Vulkan‑capable GPU (recommended)
  • .NET runtime is bundled in the AppImage (self‑contained), no separate installation required

6. Debugging / logs

If you run into issues, you can still capture the console output like this:

./Retromind-0.0.1-linux-x86_64.AppImage -- --bigmode |& tee retromind-log.txt

The log mainly contains Retromind’s own diagnostic messages (LibVLC output is currently kept minimal).

When opening an issue, please include:

  • A short description of what you did
  • Your Linux distribution and version
  • The AppImage version (0.0.1)
  • retromind-log.txt (if available)
  • Optional: output of dotnet --info if you also run a non‑AppImage build
