This update adds comparisons across environments: one baseline, usually Production, against all your other environments at once. It also lets SQLTreeo see which versions of SQLTreeo Compare are in use.
Several environments at once
- New on the start page: Compare several environments at once, for database schemas or for server configuration. Name a baseline, for example Production, and add as many environments as you need, for example Development, Test and Acceptance. Each one gets its own name and connection.
- Every environment is compared with the baseline. The results show a tile per environment with what differs there, and a matrix of objects against environments: the same, different, missing (the baseline has it, the environment does not) or extra (only the environment has it).
- Click a tile to see only what differs in that environment. Click a cell, or Open on a tile, to open the comparison of the baseline and that environment on the usual results page, with the details, the script and Deploy aimed at that environment.
- An environment that cannot be reached does not stop the comparison: it shows as not compared, with the reason, and the other environments are compared as usual.
- Export the matrix as an HTML, JSON or text report.
- The project file keeps the baseline and every environment, so the next run is one click.
- Command line:
sqlcompare environments -b <baseline> -e "Test=<connection string>" -e "Acceptance=<connection string>", with--serverfor server configuration and--format htmlfor a report. The exit code is 0 when every environment matches the baseline, 1 when one differs and 2 when one could not be read. - Table data is still compared between two databases only.
Start report
- Each time the desktop application starts, it sends a short report to the SQLTreeo license service: the version, a random installation number made on the first start, the license key if you entered one, the computer name, the time zone, the language and regional setting, and the versions of Windows and .NET. The service also records the IP address. Version 0.1.8 and earlier only contacted the license service to check a license key that you entered.
- The report is sent in the background. The application does not wait for it, and works the same when it cannot be sent.
- No database contents, connection details, passwords, scripts or comparison results are ever sent.
- The sqlcompare command line tool does not send it.
Fixes
- Logins in a server comparison now have an icon, like every other item. In 0.1.8 and earlier the space next to a login was empty.
License agreement
- The license agreement is now version 1.3. Article 6.2 describes the start report; the article numbers after it moved up by one.
