Image Regeneration

There are times when you want to recreate a favourite image and perhaps use a different setting, have the subject do something else or interact with another character. There are several ways to do this, including Inpainting and Image Prompt, but sometimes the best way is to ensure you can regenerate the image using the original parameters, then alter the prompt to make changes.

Three Regenerative Methods

FooocusPlus offers three methods to do so:

  1. The "Image Metadata" tab at the bottom of the Settings pane

  2. The "Load Log Info" button accessed through the Generated Images Catalog

  3. The "Copy to Clipboard" button from the Image Log

Cannot Apply Metadata

Apply Metadata is Not Available

To regenerate the example at the top of this article, we will try the first method: load the image into the Image Metadata window at the bottom of the Settings pane. But from the image above we see that the "Apply Metadata" button cannot be activated, so this is a deadend.

A1111 Metadata

Preview Metadata to Check Fooocus Compatibility

By opening the "Preview Metadata" accordion and scrolling to the bottom, we see that the image was saved with A1111 metadata. This metadata cannot be used for regeneration with FooocusPlus.

Copy from Log

Copy Metadata from Log to Clipboard

Fortunately the log is intact. Press "Copy to Clipboard" to retrieve the parameters.

Load Parameters

Paste into the Prompt & Load Parameters

If using Windows, use Control-V to paste the metadata into the main prompt. Then press "Load Parameters".

Fooocus Metadata Scheme

Save Images with Fooocus Metadata

For the purpose of this exercise, we will ensure that this time the image is created with Fooocus metadata. Select the Advanced tab then open the Image Control accordion. Enable the Save Metadata to Images checkbox and select the Fooocus Metadata Scheme, as shown above.

Regenerate Image

Regenerate from Log Metadata

The image can be successfully regenerated as shown above.

Apply Metadata

Apply Metadata from a Fooocus Image

The newly regenerated image contains Fooocus metadata, so it could be loaded as shown. This is not necessary at this point, but typically the "Apply Metadata" method saves a couple of steps.

Regenerate from Catalog

Regenerate from Catalogue

Or find the image in the catalogue, load the log metadata from there and press Generate.

Obsolete FooocusPlus Versions Prevent Regeneration

But there are cases where regeneration is not possible, as with the log image shown below. Although the metadata loads perfectly, the same image cannot be recreated. The image was created with FooocusPlus 1.0.6 and in order to support new graphics card technologies the Python libraries involved in generation have been changed. "Describe Image" could be of some use in recreating a similar image but it would not be an exact copy.
