A beta. Still unsigned, and still the same two ways in: the installer, or the portable ZIP you unzip over the old folder. Settings, projects and recordings live outside the application folder, so upgrading over 0.9.2 keeps your work.

The Drum Sequencer

A new node that programs rhythms with the mouse, on a grid of pads, and plays any source: a drum plugin, a synth, a sample. One output, as on a drum machine: each row's note picks its sound, and a row can still keep a MIDI channel of its own. A row plays by its own length, so rows of 16 and 12 steps drift against each other the same way on every play, export included.

One cable between two nodes

  • Every node has one IN and one OUT. What a cable carries is worked out from what the two nodes are: an instrument takes the notes and the controls and lets the audio go round, an effect takes the audio, and a node passes on what it does not use. The MIDI controller keeps a socket per control.
  • A project saved before opens with exactly the routing it had.
  • The rear view (Tab) lists what reaches each node, with a switch: ON or BYPASS. A card is as tall as its list, and the list leaves out what reaches nothing. One Ring's CTRL OUT can flip those switches as it plays, and a switch moved while playing cuts no note.

Playing and stopping

  • A second Stop cuts the tails. Pressed while nothing plays, Stop silences what still rings: a delay's repeats, a reverb's tail, an instrument's release. The header's Stop and the MiniLab's agree.
  • One Ring has an output per voice: MIDI OUT carries all four, VOICE 1 to VOICE 4 one each, so four voices meant for four instruments no longer reach all four.
  • The arpeggiator lets go of a chord released at Stop. It used to keep it, and the next Play arpeggiated it again, even from a muted track.
  • A clip can be removed on its own, keeping its track, the track's routing and its other clips.

The window

  • The header's transport no longer slides under its neighbours in a narrow window: the project's name gives way, and below 1280 px the header draws itself tighter.
