SimHit v0.1 (Preliminary Version)
Supported Platforms: Linux, Windows
Description:
The main.py script is a graphical application designed to plot serial data in real-time. This preliminary version (0.1) is intended for testing purposes and includes the following features:
Serial Data Plotting:
The application reads data from a serial port, which should be a string of comma-separated values.
The first three values from each string are plotted on three separate graphs.
Dynamic User Interface:
At startup, a preferences dialog allows the user to select the serial port and baud rate from dropdown menus.
Users can also start a "test version" that generates example data (sine, cosine, and tangent waves) for visualization without requiring a serial device.
Real-time Data Visualization:
The application displays three graphs in a vertical layout, each plotting one of the first three values from the serial data.
The graphs automatically update as new data is received.
Change Preferences On-the-Fly:
Users can change the serial port and baud rate at any time during the application's execution via a "Settings" menu.
Error Handling:
If no serial device is connected, the application gracefully switches to generating example data.
Key Components:
SerialReader Class:
Reads data from the specified serial port and emits the first three values as signals.
Runs in a separate thread to avoid blocking the main application.
PreferencesDialog Class:
Provides a user interface for selecting the serial port and baud rate.
Includes a button to start the "test version" with example data.
SineWaveGenerator Class:
Generates sine, cosine, and tangent wave values at regular intervals.
Used in the "test version" mode.
MainWindow Class:
Manages the main application window and layout.
Contains three PlotWidgets for displaying the serial data.
Integrates the PreferencesDialog and handles user inputs to change settings dynamically.
Usage Instructions:
Initial Setup:
Upon launching the application, select the desired serial port and baud rate from the preferences dialog.
Alternatively, start the "test version" to generate example data.
Plotting Data:
The application will plot the first three values from the serial data on three separate graphs.
If using the "test version," sine, cosine, and tangent waves will be displayed.
Changing Preferences:
Use the "Settings" menu to open the preferences dialog and change the serial port or baud rate during execution.
Notes:
This is a preliminary version intended for testing and feedback. Further improvements and features will be added in future releases.
